Died peacefully March 26, 2014 with his family by his side. Born August 23, 1918 in Westport, Nova Scotia “Digby County”.  Survived by his children who loved him dearly, Earl (Chris), Mary (Rob), Sharon (Joel), Janet (Doug), Sheila (Ron), Susan and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Predeceased by his loving wife, Frances (passed away February 13, 2014) and their children, Dorothy and William.  Gerald enlisted with the Navy at a young age and proceeded to the rank of Petty Office First Class.  Once retired, he used his natural born skills to fix/jimmy rig anything!  There was always a way to make it work.  He especially enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and travelling with Frances.  Known as “Newf” to his many friends.  His passion was the sea, whether “down home”, at Oak Bay Marina or with the friendly crowd at China Creek.  If you owned a crib board, you might’ve called him “fifteen-two”.  He loved his family and we loved him.  Thank you Dad!

A Celebration of the lives of Frances and Gerald McDormand will be held on Tuesday, April 8 at 1 pm at McCall’s Downtown, Johnson & Vancouver with a reception to follow in the McCall Family Centre.  In lieu of flowers, please forward tributes to Westport Church of Christ, P.O. Box 1216, Westport, Nova Scotia, B0V 1H0.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

My hunting and fishing buddy, my #2 Dad, my friend, he often told me”If someone’s dumb enough to make it, we’re dumb enough to fix it”
My best memories are fishing Constance Bank any New Year’s Day, to clear the mind…before there were depth sounders, and the years hunting moose at Goosley Lake with Gerry and Fran!!! You’re gone from our daily lives but forever in our hearts….tight lines Dad!

  • Earl Stutt

Sorry we can’t be with you on April 8th, but know that both Viana and I will be thinking of your parents at that time.
Both will be missed, each in different ways, but one common thread was their generosity and good nature.
    Earl

Dear Family and Friends, I am so sorry to hear that our beloved Gerry has passed away. All of us have been enriched by Gerry and Fran. We have learned how to laugh when we loose a big salmon, and to enjoy each others stories about fishing and hunting. Gerry was a Gem of a man, and Fran was also a Jewell of a lady. They will be forever missed. Love, Marleen Truesdell, Portland, Texas
