May 29th, 1960 – August 15th, 2014

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden unexpected passing of our beloved son, nephew, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

If you had the pleasure of meeting Billy, we know that his presence would fill a room and put a smile on your face, even when he was suffering through a phase of the debilitating illness Paranoid Schizophrenia or going through an overindulgence of his favorite beer. Billy was never ever confrontational; he always wished the best for others especially his family and never asked for much for himself. Small things gave him great pleasure, from a hot cup of coffee or a good joke. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews and relished in helping them break the rules of how much candy they could have.  He was rich with love and shared it whenever you were in his company. Mostly Billy loved to challenge his mind in deep discussions and meditate in thought. He realized a lifelong dream by travelling to China, not as a tourist, but as one to live among the common people and experience their lives. It pained him to lose the capacity to exercise his mind. However with all things in life, he accepted the limitations that the illness of Paranoid Schizophrenia put upon him with grace showing tremendous strength, courage and hope. Billy was an honest, genuine gentle soul, full of humour, laughter and joy. Billy was a man of humble belongings and very little income, yet he would embrace and connect with those that he considered to be in need more than him. He liked to have dollar coins in his pocket and give to those on the street. Even when we would say that he should hold on to his money, you worked for that, he would say that they work harder than he ever did or will.

He was born and raised in St. John’s Newfoundland on May 29th, 1960 and he spent the last 24 years in BC. He died on August 15th, 2014 in Sidney. Billy was loved by many and survived by his mother Elizabeth Anastasia (Tim) Lamkin; sisters Vonny Madore (Bob), Katherine Worsley (Frank), Patti-Anne Giorard, Joni Dibbelt (Dan), Michelle Quartermaine, and Tina Lamkin; brothers Johnny Aylward and Timothy Lamkin; nieces and nephews Lisa (Barry), Stephen, Shane (Kristal), Kristina, Sam, Rebecca, Nicole, Alex, Joanna (Corey), Daniel, Benjamin, Grace, Trevor, Jason; his ex-wife Dorothy Fleet; great nieces and nephews Morgan, Maddie, Kayden and Hudson, Brooklyn and Abigail; aunts and uncles Tom Linegar (Liz), Jimmy Linegar, Florence Yetman (Dave), Jack Linegar (Marg), Reg Linegar, Allen Linegar (Betty)  Nelly Linegar, Noreen Newman (Roger), Ethel Moore (Gerald), Elizabeth Murnaghan (Eugene), and the many, many, many cousins, friends and co-workers. His extended family and brotherhood of friends at the 7th Street home in Sidney, Chris H, Chris B, Norton, Douglas, Bob, Robert, Wayne, Tom, James, John, the cat lady Donna. He was predeceased by his father William Patrick Aylward Sr. in 1990; aunts and uncles Katherine Joan (Aylward) Doucette, John Gordon Aylward, William Linegar, Stella (Linegar) and Dick Martin; grandparents John and Marion (MacMillan) Aylward, William and Bridget (Rogers) Linegar.

Billy will be remembered for his favorite colour red, his favorite flower the red rose, his favourite song Wooden Heart by Elvis Presley, his endless smile, his belly laugh and his incredible joke and story telling ability.

May you find peace and comfort knowing that Billy is with God, Jesus, the Angels and the Saints and there is an endless supply of coffee, Chinese food, meatloaf and mashed potatoes. He is able to have fun running and screaming with the angels in the fields on the Linegar family property in Shea Heights. The gates to the swimming pool at Bamberton Park are always open. He can jump and run through the lumber yard and climb the boom, and he can ride the trains and enjoy the spoils aboard them and he is in control of sounding the whistle at every intersection.

Please join us to celebrate the life of William Patrick Aylward on Sunday, September 21st, 2014 at the Travel Lodge Charles Dickens Pub in Sidney, BC from 1pm to 6pm. You can also leave a comment on McCall Bros. Funeral website.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you take a day and walk with a roll of loonies in your pocket, stop and talk to a person sitting on the side of the street panhandling and donate a dollar to them and tell them Billy sent you. A big thank you to McCall Brothers Funeral Services for their wonderful care and support during our time of grief and sorrow.
