Wilbur “Bill” Mais

Wilbur “Bill” Mais

An era has indeed passed. On January 14, 2010, our dear father entered eternity and into the presence of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. He was one of a kind and the last family member of his generation. Bill was born to Eustice and Anna Mais on February 19, 1909 in Kingston, Jamaica. He was much loved by his children, his grandchildren, his many nephews and nieces, those he employed who needed a second chance in life, his friends and the marvellous staff at Mount Edward Court (Tannis,Wendy,Brenda, Bill, Maria, Khin, Sam , Colleen, Sabina & others, you know who you are) who cared for him as they would their own family. It’s true, there are angels on earth. Blessed with an entrepreneurial spirit, Bill went into business and opened Mais Electric in the early 1950′s. As his business prospered, he expanded into furniture and appliances, eventually selling the electrical contracting arm. He changed the name to Mais Furniture and Appliances and opened additional stores in Duncan and Ladysmith. After a long and successful career, he retired in 1975. Water baptized at 79 and arm wrestling his grandson to a draw at 95, he will be lovingly missed and remembered always by his daughter Diana (Nyna) Gillis (Mark); sons, Chris (Alice) and Larry (Nellie); grandchildren, Donovan, Danny, Joel and Alysha and great grandchildren, Dee and Aly. An Interment Service will be held at Royal Oak Burial Park on Monday, February 1st at 1:00 p.m. and a Memorial Service on Thursday, April 8th at l:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Flowers are nice, but a donation to a Haitian relief fund of your choice is better. “And just at the moment when someone at my side says “There he is gone”, there are other eyes watching and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: ” Here he comes” and that is dying – H. Van Dyke.

Messages of Condolence

  1. Garry & Melanie Lech says:

Our condolences and our prayers for you Larry & Nellie and family at the loss of your Dad and Grandpa. May the memories and the love of our wonderful God bring comfort to you in this time of grief.

  2. Blythe Barlow says:

    Dear Nyna and Larry,
I was sorry to learn of your Dad’s passing. I remember our wonderful Arbutus Road neighbourhood in the 50s and 60s, and have happy memories of visiting your home. Your Mom and Dad always welcomed the neighbourhood kids with warmth and humour.
What a long and fulfilling life your Dad lived!
    Sincerely,
    Blythe Barlow

  3. Verne and Nancy Gibson says:

Larry we are very sorry to hear about the passing of your father. You have our sincerest condolences.

  4. Merv Schmit says:

Larry, I was saddened to read of the passing of your father. Although he was able to reach an enviable age, it is never easy to let go of loved ones. I pray that your memories will keep him close to your heart and that you and your family find the strength you need to get through these tough days.

  5. Bill & Marti Lembke says:

We wanted to tell you that you are in our thoughts and prayers as you grieve the loss of your Dad. While you may rejoice that he is with the Lord, there is still the hole that is left. We are asking God to fill that hole with His love and peace.

  6. Kenneth A. Gran says:

Larry, In this time of dealing with your dad:

(2Jn 1:3) “Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.”

The Spirit started pressing upon me on January 19, 2011 in Auckland that I should be making contact with you. This went on intermittently until today when I knew I must take action. I went to google to get your phone number as quite some time ago I tossed it away. To my surprise up poped this messaging about Wilbur. I believe the timing is meant as one final attempt of the Spirit to witness the fullness of His truth to you.

I will be in Australia and Papua New Guinea for ca 2 months each and then return to Canada May 30th to complete ‘The Last Voice of Warning Tour’ that commenced last year. If you desire we can arrange for a meeting at such time, otherwise we next will face one another at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.

May the Lord Bless you and your household…”and the peace that passes all understanding flood your minds, bodies and souls in Christ Jesus”.

    In Christ Eternal
    Kenneth A. Gran
