It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Wayne Thompson, peacefully on June 21, 2014, at Victoria, British Columbia, following a brief and relentless illness.

Wayne was predeceased by his father, Jim Thompson. He is survived by his mother, Pierrette Cooper (Patrick); his brothers, Alan (Shannon), Mark, and Gary (Laura), as well as his nieces, Caitlin and Calli and nephews, Jordan and Connor. Also grieving Wayne’s much too early departure is his girlfriend, Julia Andrews, who’s home care, compassion and commitment to Wayne during his final months was incredible to witness, a gift for which the family is most grateful.

Born in Santos, Brazil on August 18, 1957, Wayne spent most of his school years in Thunder Bay, Ontario. A bricklayer by trade, and not one to let moss grow beneath his feet, Wayne lived life large and made friends in many places, including Thunder Bay, Kakabeka Falls, Cuba, Jamaica, Saskatoon, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, and finally in Lantzville, British Columbia.

Cremation has taken place, and following his wishes, there will be no service. Wayne would surely approve, if his friends were to hoist a pint in his memory.

If I should die before the rest of you,
Break not a flower nor inscribe a stone.
Nor, when I’m gone, speak in a Sunday voice,
But be the usual selves that I have known.
Weep if you must, Parting is hell.
But life goes on, So…….. sing as well.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Wayne’s passing. He is a dear old friend and a wonderful person. I had many a good time with Wayne, lots of laughs, music, travel and just plain fun! I will gather up some of the old gang here in Thunder Bay and we will get together and raise a glass and toast our beloved friend. We love you Wayne and thank you for all the good times.
