It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother and wife, Thelma Emard on July 28th in Victoria, BC.   Although she fought bravely to stay longer, she lost her battle.   Thelma leaves behind her husband, Art, of 70 years, her daughters, Louise Eljarbo (Ivan) and Marie Hoskins (Gary), her 3 grandchildren, Chad, Trevor (Becs), and Sara (Stephen) and 3 great grandchildren, Ben, Zach, and Spencer.   It also brought her great joy to know that a baby girl will arrive to the family in November.

Thelma also leaves behind many cherished long term golf and bridge friends. June Walker, in particular, has been her dear friend for 70 years. After working for several years at Eaton’s and St. Philip’s church, Thelma led a very active, healthy and full life.   She was often seen hitting balls on the tennis court, winning bowling titles and trying her very best to master the difficult game of golf. She will be sadly missed by family, friends, and her Bentley Wynd community.

The family would like to thank the remarkable hospitalists and nurses at Jubilee Hospital and also thank the caring staff at the Lansdowne program at Aberdeen Hospital. Please remember Thelma in your own special ways.

We work at Dr Hurwitz’s office where Arthur and Thelma were patients for many years. We missed them very much when they moved to live with family in Victoria. Arthur , you know You and Thelma were our favourite patients, and you always brought a smile to our face when you both walked through that door. We are very saddened to hear this news of Thelma’s passing. Our hearts go out to you and your family. Thinking of you always. Xoxo

Heartfelt condolences to you, Art, also Louise and Marie, on the passing of your dear wife and mother.
We were all hoping she would recover from all the illnesses she had to suffer through for the past six months,
but it was not to be. I am just one of many who enjoyed very much all the social times we had together.

Deepest sympathy to all the family, MARY PARSONS.

    Marie:

I have been at our Okanagan home since June 20 and have not seen a paper since then. Bill happened to be in town and brought one home yesterday. I was saddened to see the news of your mother. It is only small comfort to say that she lived a long and full life. It doesn’t lessen the pain of loss; it didn’t for me anyway. You will no doubt have wonderful memories of those halcyon days in Dunbar. I remember your mom playing tennis at the community centre and referring to my mom as ‘one of the hotshots’. It made me laugh. It seems a lifetime ago, doesn’t it? I hope that you and your family are all well and coping with the details of loss. I am assuming that you are still working; I have no picture in my mind of you retiring. I also wonder if you are still in your big house in the Uplands. One of these years we will get together for a game of golf. I started-8? years ago and, although I am not a stellar example, I am pleased to say that the game hasn’t got me by the throat; I therefore, so look forward to my tee times. The next PW reunion is only a couple of years away. Let’s make the effort to go.

With fond memories and sincere condolences,
    Bette Cosar
