Dec. 13 1916 to Oct. 20, 2010
Roxie Anderson of Victoria passed away peacefully in the Royal Jubilee Hospital, on October 20, 2010, at the age of 93. Roxie had visited with her sons, Brock and Mark and her youngest granddaughter, Kate in the morning and passed on shortly thereafter. Many of her friends had visited her during her short stay in hospital. Roxie was predeceased by her husband, Bill and her brother, Ken Wilson of Portland Oregon. She is survived by her sons, Brock (Ina) Anderson, grandchildren, Mark, Lindsay and Kate of Prince George, Mark Anderson of Kamloops, sister, Ruby Young of Merritt, nieces, Sharon Kinloch and Eleanor Crabtree, nephew, Martin Young of Merritt, sister-in-law, Isabel Wilson, niece, Donna Barker, nephew, Jeff Wilson of Portland and many other relatives. The family would like to thank the staff at the Health Point Clinic for their compassionate care over the last few months, Dr. G. McClean, Roxie’s Physician for many years and the nurses and Home Care Workers who have helped Roxie remain in her own home during the past 7 months. The care Roxie has received has been exemplary, and has been very much appreciated.

Roxie’s enthusiasm for life, interest in people, and sense of adventure, have endeared her to people all over the world. Through her chosen profession of nursing, she was able to serve others and satisfy her desire to see the world long before it was fashionable to travel. After graduating from Jubilee Nursing School in Victoria in 1941 and taking Pediatrics training in Montreal, Roxie worked for the World Health Organization in Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Iran, Indonesia, and India. She later worked as an instructor at the Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing in Victoria. Perhaps Roxie’s greatest adventure was to marry later in life to Bill Anderson and take on the responsibility of two teenage sons. Since retirement, Roxie has remained active with her church and with the Royal Jubilee Alumni Association. Roxie’s positive attitude, and her strong sense of independence was evident to the end. She was still involved in her church walking group until very recently and was able to stay in her own home until being admitted to hospital.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 9th, at 2:00 pm, with a reception to follow at First Metropolitan United Church, 932 Balmoral Road, Victoria, B.C. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation the Royal Jubilee hospital School of Nursing Archives Fund, c/o Victoria Hospital Foundation, 620 View St. Victoria. Roxie will be remembered as a “special” friend, whose warm and gracious company enriched our lives for many years. Her presence will be well and truly missed, but the memory of her long life of unstinting service will remain.

    Brock, Mark and families
I was sorry to hear of Roxie’s passing. She was a great friend to my mother, Eleanor. I was very happy to have seen Roxie at my mother’s 90th birthday party last October. She was full of energy and laughter and it was great to visit with her.
One great memory I have of Roxie was when I was a young teenager and she had returned from India. She let me try on a beautiful sari. I felt like a princess all dressed up.
Roxie was always a fun, positive person. We will miss her greatly. Our thoughts are with you.

    Mark, Brock and families:

Blair told me of Roxie’s passing. I am so sorry for your loss, but was pleased that she passed easily and on her own time. I have such fond memories of Roxie. Do you think that our mothers are sitting together in heaven now? That would be nice.

Our thoughts are with you all at this time.
    Love Faine, Ted and Teya
