Passed away peacefully on November 4th, 2014 at the age of 93. Nick was born in Mundare Alberta on a homestead to immigrant parents from the Ukraine, the second oldest son of a large family. After serving in the RCAF in WW2, he moved to Victoria and began his career with the BC Telephone Company. It was in Victoria that he met his wife Joyce. He and Joyce were married in 1948. Over their 66 years of marriage, they worked very hard building houses and raising their family. Nick had many hobbies and was always a very cheerful and active man. He enjoyed mechanical work, camping, fishing, square dancing, lawn bowling, walking, gardening, raising trout, and visiting with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Duncan United, Gordon United and later Centennial United Churches, Sons of Norway, various square dance groups, British Car Club, Juan De Fuca Seniors Group, and Ukrainian Culture Centre. In their retirement, Nick and Joyce traveled to many countries on four continents. They loved meeting new people, experiencing new cultures and trying various ethnic foods. They traveled to Mexico in their motor home for many years. He was always a loving partner and caregiver. He managed to enjoy (and mainly win) crib until his passing. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered his three sons, his nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Nick is survived by one brother in Edmonton. He was predeceased by his wife earlier this year, daughter Shirley Chilibeck (1976), his parents Harry and Anna, and siblings Helen, Peter, Katherine, Mary, Elsie, John, Marie, Jenny, Andrew and Pearl.

Service will be held in his memory at Centennial United Church, 612 David St, Victoria, BC on Monday November 10, 2014 at 12:00 noon with internment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park, 4673 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of their choice.
