Jessie Irene McEachern passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on October 4th, 2014. She was born in Halkirk, Alberta on March 19th, 1925. She grew up in Kelowna BC, graduating from Kelowna Secondary School in 1944. After completing business school and working in business for a few years, she found a higher calling in serving people and entered Royal Jubilee Nursing School, graduating in 1952. After obtaining a diploma in public health from McGill University in 1956, she entered the public service with stints in Nakusp, Oliver, Williams Lake, and Abbotsford, where she held public health clinics for remote communities. She was transferred to Victoria, BC in 1966, where she then settled in James Bay. After retiring in 1987, she devoted more time to her favorite pursuits: golf at the Royal Colwood Golf Club, hiking with the Outdoor Club, bridge, walks on Ogden Point, her community garden plot, travel, plays at the Belfry, and gourmet dinners with friends. Her calling to serve continued through numerous volunteer activities including the Royal BC Museum, Community Connections and more.

She is survived by her Brother Ken McEachern of Kamloops, Niece Lynn Davie (Fetterly) of Kamloops, Nephews Ian and Robert McEachern of Vancouver and Calgary, great nephews and niece in BC, Alberta and Ontario and great great nieces and nephews in BC and Alberta.

The family would like to thank all the members of her palliative care team that provided exceptional care in her final weeks.

A service celebrating her life will be held at James Bay United Church on October 25th at 1:00pm with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to your favorite charity, the Royal BC Museum, or go for a walk, one of Jessie’s favorite pastimes.
