October 2, 1923- November 7, 2014

A bright and sweet spirit left us at age 91 with the sun in her eyes.  Sadly mourning her passing is daughter Colleen, cousin Hilda Lock and family, niece Marian Dean and a large extended family of friends and relations in Canada, the US, the UK and Australia.

Fran was a born and raised third generation Victorian. A devoted member of Centennial United Church for 85 years she was a member of CGIT, Young Peoples and Junior and Senior Choirs growing up, and as an adult taught nursery school for 15 years, then  another 15 years as Treasurer of the Nell Bell Group.  Though a talented pianist and regular accompanist for Musical Arts Society performers, she traded a likely career as a music teacher for graduation from St. Margaret’s Business School and happy employment at Victoria City Hall from 1944 to 1953. Fran married Donald Mills in 1952 and they had two daughters, Colleen and Judy.

Her family enjoyed many years traveling around Canada and the US in their beloved motorhome, cruising, on coach trips to the UK and Hawaii, camping on the Island, and decades of fun times with dear friends Gil & Betty Carmichael, Flo & George Mac Gregor and Mary & Greg Mackenzie.  She is predeceased by husband of 61 years Don (2013) daughter Judy, brother Ken, four nephews, several cousins, Gil, George, Mary and Greg. Those who knew her best and longest remember her unselfishness, kindness and great generosity.

Her life will be celebrated with a Memorial Tea on Saturday, November 29 at Centennial United Church (612 David St at Gorge Rd E) from 1-3pm. She will be laid to rest in the family plot in Ross Bay Cemetery on Monday, December 1 at 11am. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a cause of your choice. The family thanks Dr. David Saltman and the doctors and nurses of 8N RJH for their kindness and care during her final weeks.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Mills’ passing. I met her a few years ago at a funeral for my aunt, Jean Carmichael, when she was asking if anyone knew if Grace Watt was there. I told her she was my grandma, and she had passed away a few years previously….I so enjoyed hearing stories about my grandma I’d never heard before and finally putting a face to the Frances MacIvor that Grandma spoke fondly of. She was such a kind lady, and I’ll remember our meeting for a long time.
