I went to school and graduated with Steven at Edward Milne in 1978 (it doesn’t seem so many years ago). I remember Steve’s infectious laugh and playing Basketball with him in high school. We were all pretty gawky and clumsy back then, especially Steve. In school he always seemed positive and upbeat, and I enjoyed his humour!

I had the chance to reconnect with Steve during a high school reunion some time ago and enjoyed chatting with him! As always he was upbeat and happy. Though I have never know Steve very well, I enjoyed seeing his Facebook site showing off his boat and fish that he obviously enjoyed catching!

While much too young to pass away, perhaps his job here was done and he has passed on to richer fishing grounds! I’m sure he will be missed!

    All the best, Dave Marsh

  • Ruth Langland (Reid)

I am so sad to hear about Steven’s passing. Although I have not kept contact with your family my thoughts often race back to our growing up years. To me it was just yesterday we were swimming in the harbour, running through the woods, playing in the playhouse and riding our bikes so carefree. Please pass my deepest condolences to the whole family. Ruth

My heart goes out to Steve’s family and friends. He will be greatly missed. Favourite mechanic. I can’t say enough about his thoughtfulness and warm smile. Customer service above and beyond all expectations. Always went the extra mile. I’ll never forget when I took my mom’ s car in for a brake job and Steve fixed her window washer without me asking – no charge. He credited his mom for teaching him to treat elders with respect. Hats off to the Banner family.

Taken way too young, so sorry to lose you Cuz. I used to love it when our girls would “trick or treat” at your place on Halloween, you would always do the trick part yourself by having a new get-up to wear to scare them, whether it was a fake knife you’d stab in the air, or by wearing an arrow through your head. I will miss your great smile and wonderful sense of humour! Our condolences to the Banner family, I know my Dad Jock loved you tons. Love from Nadine, Dave, Garnet and Andrea Van Dyck

  • Jack Jorgensen

I went to high school with Steve and remember him as a guy with a big smile and bigger sense of humor. Many an EMSS basketball trip were made better simply by his presence on the floor, resting between shifts on the bench, and in particular, on the bus. Steve was liked by everyone, myself included. We would all do well to take a page or two out of his book. My heartfelt condolence is extended to the Banners.

Steve is one of those rare people you meet in your life that can impact you in so many wonderful ways with his humour, intelligence, insight and story telling. He is a big part of our family. Friends in high school and decades ago we became brothers through marrage. Fishing and cars were his biggest passions and he always had something he was thinking about with his sharp mind. As he was battling illness he was reading, researching and working out his options. Always moving forward and being positive when so many would have given up. He kept the doctors and medical system on their toes and pointed out flaws in their systems as it could potentially harm others. He read and researched and kept on fighting. Steve’s mindset was amazingly strong, positive and inspirational. I am proud to call him Brother.
