James now joins the growing group of family with both parents gone. Having lost both of my parents in the past 7 years, I know how hard this is . May God bless us to remember the good about Rob and our own kindred.

Dear James and Jen, I am so sorry to hear of Rob’s passing. I only met him and Alayne once but he seemed to me to be a force bigger than life and he enjoyed his family and his travels. Bon Voyage, Rob! And many hugs to all of you that he left behind.

I just learned of the passing of my friend Rob. We first met in 1956, when we were both at Victoria High School, and we kept in touch since. I stayed with Rob and Alayne often when they lived in Ottawa and subsequently on Quimper Street in Victoria. We usually managed to get in a couple of squash games, we drank good wine and ate excellent steak or salmon, and we had superb conversations. It’s sad that both are now gone. Cornelia and I send our heartfelt condolences to Andrea, Jamie, Jennifer, and the other members of the Hamilton clan.

As sad as it was to say farewell to Rob, the celebration (which can only be described as a good Scottish wake) brought together family, friends and colleagues, many of whom had not connected for 10+ years.

That in and of itself is a testament to the manner in which Rob regarded those in his life — as was noted at the gathering and although the last conversation may have been several years ago, Rob had a wonderful knack of picking it up and carrying on as if you had just chatted the day before.

My thoughts and prayers to Andrea, Jamie, Gord, Neil and the whole of the extended Hamilton Clan
