Please accept my deepest sympathy. Bob was a very good man and a trusted friend to me.

  • Bill Cross

I was sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. We were both in the Faculty of Education at the time when it first became a part of the newly founded University of Victoria and for many years after until we both retired. Those were great years and Bob contributed so much to the Faculty both as teacher and Administrator.

    Dear Irene and Family,

I was so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. He was such a kind and wonderful gentleman.
If there is anything I can do, please call. My thoughts are with all of you.
Philip and Carly send their condolences.

Mr. Swailes taught me Physics at Cowichan High School in Duncan in 1960-61. He was a superb teacher and made a lasting impression upon me. His emphasis on writing up experiments properly was something I instilled in my own students during my 35 years as an elementary teacher. My oldest brother also had Mr. Swailes as a teacher in Duncan High School and holds him in very high regard. He also fondly remembers going to square dances where Mr. Swailes was the caller.

What wonderful memories I have of you and Bob from the beginning of your perfect lives together, and how lucky I was to have met you both.

Bob was such a gentleman, with integrity, and a constant smile. You will miss him tremendously I know but the time you had together especially when he was well was full and that was a gift for you both.

Jim and I wish you the best .

I write to offer my sadness to this goodbye that you have gone through.

I remember Bob for his hospitality and welcome he gave Dick and I at our first arrival. Dick admired Bob a lot and together they aimed for the same academic improvements in U Vic’s school of education.

I remember liking you right away when we first met. I hope you will be gratified by the quality of memories you have for living with a man with such high personal qualities.
