February 28, 1952 – February 07, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rob (Higgy) Higgins in Victoria. Predeceased by his eldest son Kyle and youngest son Timothy, Rob is survived by his loving wife Marian, son Nathan, brothers Tom (Frances) and David, and extended family members.

Rob’s career was with the federal government, one year with DND and thirty six years with the Correctional Service of Canada from which he retired as a Correctional Manager. Rob was proud of his work with the CSC, especially his ten years as the Institutional Emergency Response Team Leader, and as a weapons instructor. Since his retirement from the CSC, Rob took on additional work with both Da Silva Landscaping and most recently for Greyhound Parcel Delivery.

From his youth, Rob was an avid sportsman who had a special love for soccer and softball, playing for many years for both the Gorge and the Juan De Fuca Associations.

Rob had a quick wit, a wicked and sometimes outrageous sense of humor, and loved to laugh. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends, especially his numerous “coffee buddies”.

In respecting Rob’s wishes, a Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be scattered at a later date. There will be a Celebration of his Life on Friday February 17, 2012 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm, at the Royal Canadian Legion on Station Road in Langford. Flowers are respectfully declined but if his friends and colleagues so wish, contributions can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Victoria BC and Yukon.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

My sincere condolences to the whole Higgins family. Rob and I went to school together for a few years and played on the same soccer team with the Gorge Assn. We hadn’t seen one another for many years until recently at a birthday party for our soccer manager.

He was the same guy I knew many years before, just an all around good person.

You’ll be missed by all who knew you!

Marian and Nathan I too want to say how sorry myself and my family are for your loss. I was a very lucky man to have Higgy take me under his wing when I arrived at WHI and will never forget the big heart that lived under that larger than life exterior. I can’t count how many times we sat together during those long midnight shifts passing the hours swapping stories and laughing until we cried. The hours flew by as we joked about the various antics that surround the job but inevitably the thing Rob Higgins spoke most proudly of at all times was the both of you. I will miss my friend and will think of him often. My only concern now is whether God is ready to play second fiddle.

  • Amanda & William

Love to the family, we will sure miss our “Princess” Robbie.

  • Marjie Hanks

Everyone loved Higgy. He always made me laugh and a lot of that had to do with his own crazy laughter and his wacky sense of humour. There was no one quite like Higgy.
He will be missed, especially by you and Nathan and his family, I am sure.
    Love and hugs to you.

Marian, Pat and I wish to extend our best to you and the family and are sorry for your loss. Rob was a good man and I enjoyed my time working with him. I ran into Rob just before Christmas at Greyhound and he looked well. We chatted for about 15 minutes, mad plans to do coffee in the new year etc. so when I heard, it was a shock. Once again our sympathies are with you and the family in this difficult time.

  • Raishi and Micheline Basi

    Marian and Nathan,
I am saddened to hear the news of Higgy’s passing. What a shock that must have been for you. I will remember him fondly; it was fun to work with him. I remember the stories he used to tell about you, Nathan when you were small, “ratting him out” to your Mom, then he would call you a “furback” you would tell your Mom, then he would tell you, “You can’t skate with no legs!” or some other funny remark. I always smile when I think of that, which I do more often than you might think.

My deepest sympathies to you both.

    Bev
