Richard passed away peacefully at home with family by his side July 25, 2015.  Born on January 1, 1929 he was predeceased by parents, Madge and Norman Fatt and brother, Allen.  Survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Ian (Wendy), Wayne (Liisa), Louise (Marc) and Sandra; grandchildren, Bridget, Rebecca, Kailee, Brenden, Kristina, Kyle, Adele, Brynn, Cai, Tabitha, Colten, Haldon and their significant others and great grandchildren, Ainsley, Benson, Jacob. He is also survived by his siblings, Bert (Eniz) Fatt and Jean Wilkinson, brother-in law, Alec (Myrle) Rogers  along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Richard was born in Victoria and spent his life farming in the Municipality of Saanich.  Over the years, he was heavily involved in the B.C. Broiler Growers Association, Farmer’s Institute and supported the 4H. He was also an active member of St. Michael and All Angels’ Church since the age of 6. Richard will be remembered for his honesty, love of family and dedication to farming.  Although he farmed for an impressive 75 years, he especially enjoyed the last 15 years spent on his rural farm. Richard lived his life according to the Ten Commandments, setting a commendable example for his family.

Richard appreciated the care of his care aides from Beacon & Bayshore Home Support, the nurses from Home & Community Care (Royal Oak Health Unit), Victoria Hospice and the exceptional care of Dr. Marsh, Dr. Sweeney and Dr. Yam. His favourite caregiver was Nurse Phyllis – his loving wife of sixty years.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Michael & All Angels’ Church, 4733 West Saanich Road, Victoria, B.C.  Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. The service will be followed by a casual barnyard lunch reception at 12:30p.m.

In lieu of flowers Richard had requested that donations be made to Victoria Hospice or  St. Michael and All Angels’ Church.

  • Susan Mullins and Michael Meyer

Our deepest condolences to Phillis and the family.
Michael and I were very fortunate to live in the little yellow house on their property. We could not have asked for kinder people to have as landlords and friends. Always kind and generous, knowledgeable and with a smile, Richard was a pleasure to know. To see Richard and Phillis together was the perfect picture of what we felt a couple should be like growing old together. A picture we will always hold dear.
