  • Rev Paul and Jean Curtis

Our condolences to Murray’s family. I am sure he will be greatly missed, but you will have many wonderful memories to share. Murray played a very big roll in our lives and we will remember him as friend, pastor and teacher. As an adult, I ( Jean ) was in one of his last confirmation classes at St. George’s, Brandon prior to his leaving for England and he officiated at our wedding a mere days before he actually left. Then a few years later while serving in Minnedosa, he baptized our two daughters on separate occasions. I shall always remember him as a truly gentle man, a man of faith and humble sincerity. We are the richer for having known him.

I was a classmate of Murray’s at Brandon General Hospital Nursing School. Please accept my condolences. He was part of our group that went out every Friday night to a restaurant. We shared a lot of laughter. He was always ready with encouraging words when we had a hard week. I will always have fond memories of Murray. He will be missed

I was also a member of the Class of 75 and am glad that I had the opportunity to know Murray. Although he did not actively nurse for long he did tell me that he was grateful for his experiences in nursing and that his education in nursing was extremely helpful with his day to day ministry. My other memory of Murray is as a minister as I am also an Anglican and Murray presided at my wedding ceremony in 1975. He will be missed by many.

    Dear Jeanette and Ken
Murray was a good friend to my late husband Errol and I after we moved to Victoria in 1983.I cherish many happy times together.
I took Murray often for shopping and appts.
In Dec 1912 I moved to Campbell River and just saw him on trips down island. I was down the weekend of March 2nd and left 3 messages for him not knowing he was in hospital.
I know he is healed now and has heard those words “Well done, good and faithful servant” And I know he has appreciated your faithfulness to him, Blessings, hilda

Growing up in Somerset, Manitoba (small French Roman Catholic community) in a very strong Anglican family certainly had my meeting Murray Ames at a young easily-influenced age. I knew the Anglican ministry would always be in my life.. hence, confirmed by Bishop Murray then active in Anglican Young Peoples through High School and University.. Spent 2 summers travelling with Sunday School by Post (Anglican Bishops Messengers) taking services throughout northern Saskatchewan as a lay-reader. Women were not ordained by the Anglican Church in the 60’s as they are now.. off to Teachers’ College for me. None of these things would have been done by a strong willed Anglican gal in a Roman Catholic community had it not been by the positive attitude and influence of Reverend Murray Bruce Ames, His job is done.. He will never be forgotten.. Rest in Peace my friend and mentor.

I am very sorry to hear of Murray’s passing. I was a classmate of Murray’s in the Brandon General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of ’75. Murray was a wonderful classmate and friend, a quiet reflector and observer, and full of fun. He will be greatly missed by our class, and I’m sure by his family.

    Much love,
    Penny Macklem
