Philip John Tarr

December 22, 1926 – March 13, 2009
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of my husband, our father, our grandpa and our greatpa. After a long battle with Parkinson’s, it was time for him to let go; may he be remembered for how hard he tried. Born in Cardiff, Wales, he emmigrated to Victoria, B.C., Canada in May 1952 with his new bride, Frances and first-born baby boy, Andrew. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 59 years, Frances; children, Andrew (Valerie), Stephen (Janice), Luke (Martina), Vivienne (White), Christine, Peter and Paul; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jeanette, Robert, Matthew, Ariel, Christopher, Shane, Ethan and Tristan; great-grandchildren, Massimo, Hudson and Simone. He is survived by his only brother, Anthony (Betty) of Cheltenham, Glos. England; nephews, Christopher, Martin, Nicholas and their families. Philip played rugby for the Oak Bay Wanderers and because of his love of golf became a member of the Royal Colwood Golf and Country Club for 25 years; Parkinson’s disease robbed him of golf. A special thanks to staff at Aberdeen Hospital (Lansdowne Unit), especially to those who cared for him not only as a patient but as a person. This was not unnoticed by Phil nor by his family; it will not be forgotten.

On Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 2:00 pm, a service will be held at The Royal Oak Garden Chapel with interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park. A Reception will follow at Sequoia Gardens Memorial. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Parkinson Society of British Columbia, Suite 600, 890 West Pender Street, Vancouver, BC, V6C 1J9. Thank you.

    On behalf of the Reed family (headed by Gordon (deceased) and Kathleen (now Kathleen Butler), please accept our condolences. While my memories of Phil and the rest of your family are nearly 50 years old, being just a little kid when our two families visited with each other, I clearly remember you guys and being at your house on Saanich Rd. I remember Phil (Mr. Tarr, to me, of course) as being a nice man and I remember his laugh and his interesting accent. It is is sad that he is gone, though he remains in our memories. We wish you the best.
