September 10, 1956 – August 18, 2014

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father and friend after his second battle with cancer.  Patrick fought cancer with pure grace, courage and hope.  Patrick was a genuine gentle soul, full of humour, laughter and joy.  If you had the pleasure of meeting Patrick, I’m sure you know that his presence would fill a room and put a smile on your face, even in his final days.  He was born and lived his entire life in Victoria.  He worked as a glazier in his younger years and with immense bravery returned to school in his 30’s to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Science.  This lead to his career with the Provincial Government, wherein he created many friendships and fond memories.

Patrick was loved by many and survived by his three daughters, Rachel Blakely (Joel), Madeline Murray (Luc) and Karina Murray; his granddaughters, Adelaide and Isla Blakely; his siblings, Keven Murray (Leslie), Mary Ann Murray (David), Karen Murray and Teresa Murray (Dorinda); his former wife, Laura Murray; nieces and nephews, Sarah, Darren, Kalvin, Stephanie and Koen; as well as many cousins, other family, friends and co-workers.  Patrick was predeceased by his father, Patrick Murray in 1978 and his mother, Bernice Murray in 2013.

Patrick will be remembered for his smile, laugh and incredible story telling ability.  Patrick expressed true gratitude for the wonderful loving care he received from Victoria Hospice and the BC Cancer Agency during his final months.  May he find peace and comfort as a star shining down on us from on top of the ‘whirled’.

Please join us to celebrate the life of Patrick on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 2:00 pm at McCall Bros., Johnson & Vancouver Streets in Victoria.  In lieu of flowers, Patrick would request a donation to Victoria Hospice or BC Cancer Agency.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Sharon and I offer our deepest condolences to the family of my dearest friend. Pat was a wonderful man who loved you all very much. I have so much respect for how Pat handled the last year of his life. The biggest focus of his last months were his family and how he loved you all. Pat was a unique, funny and witty man who will leave a big hole in my life. I will miss him dearly as we all will.

Patrick was a truly wonderful person to have as a friend. His laughter was infectious and he made me laugh until it hurt. I will miss our annual get together to send off the cruise ships at the end of the season. They were always the best of times. My sincere condolences to Patrick’s family.

So sad when a human being has to suffer at the hands of cancer, however Pat fought valiantly with dignity and grace. We have many fond memories with Pat, Laura and the girls, sharing family Christmas times and birthdays. Patrick was very proud of his family, know this Rachel , Maddi and Karina, he enjoyed talking of all your achievements. He was grateful to carry on a friendship with Laura and her assistance during those “hard and trying days”. Patrick left this world far too soon but left a footprint with love, kindness and valor. Now Pat has moved on to his next destination and has finally come home. We will see you among the stars dear friend, we are sure you will shine in heaven as you did on earth. Much love, Dar and Russ
