Nov. 2, 1919 – Oct. 21, 2010

Our beloved Mom was granted her wish to pass away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her husband, Johnny in 1982, she is survived by daughters, Jackie (Adrian) Brien, Judy (Tom) Wainwright; grandchildren, Shannon, Kristen, Grant, Jason and Heather; four great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Born in Victoria, Mom attended St. Ann’s Academy and later found her calling working with Family and Children’s Services helping needy families. She was a passionate golfer who enjoyed many years with friends as a member at Glen Meadows and Cedar Hill golf clubs. Never one to be limited by convention, Mom tried her hand at many things. She excelled at woodwork, creating everything from coffee tables to bird houses. In her 80’s she discovered Reiki and became a Master. A naturalist at heart, she enjoyed salt and fresh water fishing, fly tying and bird watching. Her creativity also included drawing, flower arranging and making stuffed animals. A saviour of lost and broken things, Mom fixed things others had forsaken. A loving and supportive mother, grandmother and friend, she was an inspiration to many and loved by all. She will be deeply missed. Special thanks to Joan Burrows for her care and companionship to Mom these past three years and to Dr. Michael Miles for his exceptional care.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 2:00 pm in St. Patrick’s Church, 2060 Haultain Street with a reception to follow in the Lady of Lourdes Church Hall. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

How I’ll miss my best friend Pat. I’m so thankful that she will no longer have to suffer the indignities of a body that was failing her, not being able to golf, drive, putter in her workshop and yard and get out and socialize. My wonderful friend who taught me all about acceptance and patience, that age doesn’t matter, that it’s important to speak up and let your voice be heard and she certainly did that with great gusto. I will always picture her with her raised fist, shaking it around, getting her point across with passion and conviction. Oh how we laughed, cried, shared secrets, had so much fun. For 21 years Pat, you were a true friend. I will miss you so much. I’m so proud to have been one of ‘Pat’s Brat’s” And a sincere thank you to Judy, Jackie, Adrian, Tom, Kristen, Shannon, you’ve always made me feel so welcome and a part of your family. Thank you for sharing your wonderful mother, mother-in-law and nana with me, She was certainly a light in my life.

Remembering my friend Pat. She had many exceptional qualities. She would say, “You don’t have to be doing things all the time, relax!”, “Oh, by the way could you do…..but not right now, later”. I learned to relax. I learned how to be silent and comfortable with my friend. I learned how to make her smile and laugh at times. I learned about her and her life while sharing stories. Oh, did I mention golf and movies? I learned how much she loved her family and friends. Pat created many things in her life. Her living legacy is her loving family. Always giving of their time, love and of themselves to provide whatever she needed. I have been so lucky to know you all. “Should old acquaintance be forgot, We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet, for the days of long ago” Auld Lang Syne.” I will miss you, my friend.
