Passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC on January 18, 2016 at the age of 91 years.

Peter was born on October 16, 1924 in Primate, Saskatchewan to Peter Prediger and Katherine Gartner and the last to survive of the 5 children. He was raised in Luseland, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Air Force and later the Army where he earned the rank of Captain.  As an Officer, he attended the University of Saskatchewan where he graduated in 1950 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Peter married Sheila Yates Brown in 1950 and lived in Kingston, Ontario for 3 years.  Peter was posted to Korea for one year where he served as Captain. He also held the rank of Major in the Militia when in Montreal.   In 1956, he left the Service to work for the Steel Company of Canada in Montreal.  He was later transferred to Hamilton and enjoyed a wonderful 33-year career, his last 5 years as Vice-President of Stelwire Ltd.  He was also a Mason at the Burlington Lodge 165, Burlington, Ontario.

On retirement, Peter and Sheila moved from Burlington, Ontario to Victoria, BC. They enjoyed golfing, travelling extensively abroad and later to Palm Desert, California.

My condolences to you on the loss of your husband and father. I was an employee of Stelwire Ltd. (Burlington Works) for 30.5 years until it closed in 2006. Peter managed our Mill and I met him many times when he toured the facilities. We had many interesting conversations not only regarding Labour relations, he in his capacity of Supervisory and I, in my capacity Union Representative, but also about many varied subjects. He liked to get to to know people. I always found him to be a very insightful and respectful man. He treated his employees with respect and dignity. I really enjoyed the conversations that we shared and I was glad when I read that he had retired out west to Victoria and had enjoyed traveling and golf. He was a very nice Boss.

My dad, up until he passed away 3 months ago, was one of Peter’s neighbours at The Lodge at Broadmead. I had the pleasure of talking with him, commenting on his very dapper dressing (he had a wide assortment of vests).and having a laugh with him. I’ll always remember an incident after a spill….Peter threw up his hands and said “I’m innocent”. I’ll remember him with fondness. My condolences to the family.

It was a pleasure to have met Peter and to have been part of the care team. I loved dancing with him and hearing about his love for Sheila. Wishing you and your family love and healing.
