Our Heavenly Father called Nelson home. It is with joy we celebrate his life and memory. Nelson was born in Victoria, BC, the son of Stan and Alice Martin. Nelson was a lifetime member of the Salvation Army and spent his life helping others. He worked at Southall’s, then served for three years overseas in the Navy. He was part owner of Delta Electric for many years and then worked a few years at Woolco and finally at Hastings Appliances. Dad played the euphonium in the Salvation Army band for over 60 years. Mum and dad’s home was always open. If they weren’t at church, they were at the bowling alley. Mum and dad bowled with top bowlers May and Cy Wallis. They were known around town as the “strong team”. He missed a perfect game in five pin bowling by one pin.

Dad was the quiet one of the family. He surrounded himself with many friends in our church, and outside the church. One of the things he enjoyed doing in later years was meeting people at the Deli on Esquimalt Road. The friendships have lasted over the years. He was fortunate to have lived for seven years at the Renaissance. Myrt and Nelson enjoyed many trips to Hawaii along with some family members and friends.

Dad is predeceased by his wife, Myrtle of 70 years. He is survived by daughter, June (Dave); granddaughter, Tracey (Dan) and great grandchildren, Abbey and Nate and brother-in-law, Ernie Bent and family.

Special thanks to Dr. Crofton for 29 years of care. Thank you to the staff at Broadmead for their tender love and care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Victoria Citadel Salvation Army on Monday the 18th day of January, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. He would be honoured by memorial donations to the Veterans’ Lodge at Broadmead, 4579 Chatterton Way, Victoria, BC V8X 4Y7 or the Victoria Citadel Salvation Army, 4030 Douglas St., Victoria, BC, V8X 5J6.
