In loving memory of my mother, Marianne Kanneberg. Born in Cologne, Germany she came to settle in the small town of Terrace, BC in 1957 as the young wife of Gerhard Kanneberg (predeceased), also a recent immigrant looking for a new start in life. A cultural shock at first, she adapted well. Mom never shied away from adventure or challenge throughout her life. She worked 35 years for the Ministry of Health, starting her career caring for the elderly and infirmed in Terrace, later transferring through higher education, to administrative duties in Victoria, BC. She travelled extensively both in Europe and North America and loved doing road trips. In retirement, mom discovered lawn bowling which she pursued for 12 years and loved her extensive walks on the waterfront with her friend June, until health issues prevented her from participating actively.  Most of all, mom cherished the small things in life such as: warm summer afternoons, time spent together, Sunday dinners, flowers, strawberry sundaes, drives along the waterfront and all the little creatures in the garden. Marianne was not just my mother, but my friend and she will be missed dearly.

She is survived by myself, Daniella and my husband, Kevin.

A special thank you to both the Aberdeen Rehab Team for their care and Dr. Dumott and the team at Royal Jubilee Hospital for their kindness and support in her final days.

A Celebration of Marianne’s Life will be held early in the Spring.

Together with my great aunt (Marianne) and my great cousin (Daniella) i spent some of my happiest summers in life. I will never forget this time which had such a great impact on the person i am now and for which i am so thankful.

Unfortunately we haven´t seen each other over the last years, separated by 10.000 km.
I wish we could have spent more time together.

    I miss you Janne!!!!

Marianne was like a second mother to me, and I will always be thankful to her for welcoming me with open arms into her home while growing up in Terrace. I have very fond memories of those days gone by: accompanying Marianne and Daniella to Germany in 1975; road trip to Prince George listening to the tunes of Neil Diamond blaring on the old 8-track cassette; camping trip to Lakelse Lake; weekend drives to Kitimat; delicious German-inspired meals. She was a generous and caring woman, and Daniella meant the world to her. The last few years were tough on Marianne, health-wise, but she never complained, and we always had a lovely visit and a laugh over a cup of tea, whenever I went to visit her. She demonstrated nothing but courage and tenacity over the last few months. I will miss her dearly, and remember her fondly. An angel has earned her wings. Rest in peace, Mutti.
