Magdalene was born in Berlo, Manitoba and passed away peacefully on July 11th in Victoria, BC. She was predeceased by her loving husband, David and infant son, Paul along with siblings, Joe, Kay, Mary, Tony, Margaret and Ed. Magdalene will be deeply missed by her five children: Kathy (Bob) Gilbey, grandchildren, Julie (Dave) along with great granddaughter, Isabel, Zack (Melanie); Terry (Rocky) Wardrobe, grandson, Brian; Patsy (David) Allen, grandsons, Andrew, Bryan (Alannah); Rick Wardrobe, grandchildren, Amy, David, Jodie, Michael; Shelley (Fred) Wagner, grandsons, Evan (Ali), Calvin (Tanis) and Magdalene’s sisters, Ann and Lucy.

While following David’s career in the Canadian Forces, Magdalene and David raised their family all across Western Canada. This involved stops in Gimli, Comox, Alsask, Yorkton, Holberg, Beaverlodge and Grand Prairie before eventually settling down in Victoria in 1977. Magdalene was an active member of her community, volunteering countless hours at St Patrick’s Church along with various other causes. When Magdalene wasn’t graciously volunteering her time, she could often be found playing card games with friends and dining out with them. She enjoyed attending events at the Army and Navy Club as well as participating in her walking club at the mall. Magdalene was dedicated to her family and a visit to “Grandma’s” would always include several servings of her world famous perogies along with homemade buns and cabbage rolls.

A heartfelt thanks to the staff at James Bay Care Home and the many doctors, nurses and members of the community who supported Magdalene during these past few years.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 6:30 pm at McCall’s Downtown, Johnson & Vancouver Streets in Victoria, BC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 2060 Haultain Street, on Thursday July 21, 2016 at 12:10 pm with a reception to follow.

    Sincere condolences to Magdalene’s Family

It is difficult to accept that someone who has given us the gift of life is no longer physically with us. However, God, in his infinite wisdom and compassion allows us, as humans, to close our eyes and recall our loved ones into our minds and our hearts anytime we are feeling alone and forsaken.

Magdalene is now at peace and her spirit will always be with us…Rest in peace dear, dear friend.
