“James, a servant of God.”  James Edward Milroy left this world on the eve of his 91st birthday to soar heavenward into the waiting arms of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  Also, there to meet him were his wife of 52 years, Joy (nee Munday, 2004); his younger brother, Johnny and his parents, Gordon and Nellie, who led their “Jimmy” to faith in Jesus at the age of seven.   He was no doubt thrilled to see many other old friends in their brand new bodies as well.

Jim was born at home in Powell River, February 1, 1925 and grew up the oldest sibling of brother, Johnny and sisters, Ellen and Elsie.  He studied agriculture at UBC and had his first job with the Forest Service in Kamloops mapping Provincial lands suitable for grazing livestock.  He was in his element camping out and riding the range.  In 1951, he was transferred to Nelson where he met and married Joy and together raised 5 children of whom he was very proud:  Michael, Susan (Steve Luney), Steve (Sue), Kerry (Doug Renfrew), Jenifer Maigler; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  They testify to his lifelong work ethic, honesty, generosity, faithfulness, and godly character.  Jim’s work took the family to Williams Lake in 1973 where he made many good friends, especially in the Evangelical Free Church.  In 1978, he brought his family to Victoria when he was promoted to the position of Head Agrologist within the Provincial Government. He retired at age 56 and devoted his time to the things he enjoyed, his garden, charitable causes and Scrabble games with his wife. Jim enjoyed the company of his special sister-in-law, Barbara Munday, as well as wonderful new friends at The Victorian Retirement Home on Feltham Road, where he resided for the past 8 years.  Jim was always generous in supporting worthy causes such as missions and those in need.  His first love was always the Lord Jesus Christ.   Before leaving for glory, Jim penned words helpful to all: “The Holy Scriptures are able to make you wise for salvation, through faith in Christ Jesus,” (2 Tim 3:15).  His final encouragement was, “How I do hope that we will all meet again in Glory!”

A memorial service will be held at Oaklands Chapel on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 2:00 pm, with a reception tea to follow at the same location.

    To Jim’s Family!
I had the privilege of knowing your dad for the past 6 years through my work with the Canadian Bible Society. A wonderful Christian gentleman who had a heart for the Bible and a desire that others would have access to scripture . My last visit with him was in Dec.
Please be assured of my prayers for his family. I will miss him.

Jim Milroy truly had a servant’s heart. He was very kind to others and shared with many. We were privileged to have known Jim and were so grateful that he showed such kindness and was an encourager to our dad Lorne Wakelin especially in dad’s final years.
We know the words “Well done, good and faithful servant” will be said of Jim Milroy.

That i did not get to see him before He left makes me sad, and that I will not see Him again this side of paradise. My thoughts and prayers and condolences to His family. Praise God for Jim Milroy!

It seems not that long ago I was sending a card to Jim offering congratulations on achieving a milestone 90th birthday. Our relationship with Jim came about because of the friendship and care Jim gave my father, Lorne Wakelin prior to his passing in late Dec 2009. Their friendship went on for many years of course, but it was the last few months of my father’s life that really demonstrated Jim’s caring nature. This my family has not forgotten.
I’m sure that friendship has been restarted in heaven.

I am surprised and much saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. I spoke to him at Christmas on the phone and was not aware of any problem. We were second cousins and very close to the same age and although not close correspodents I enjoyed his company whenever we met and I admired his warmth, generosity, and strengh of faith and character. I send my condolences to his family and especially to Ellen and Elsie. I don’t believe I will be able to attend the memorial service. Sincerely, Rod.
