Predeceased by her beloved husband, Ed (Egidius) Fitterer and daughter, Barbara Ann (Barbie), Elli is survived by her sons, Bernie and Robert (Casey); grandchildren, Bernie Jr. (Nicky), Jenna-Leigh (Eric), Sarah (Sean), Adam, and Jenny; and by her great-grandson Taylor.

Although she had been slipping away, bit by bit, for several years due to Alzheimer’s disease, the essential beauty and goodness of her character was never lost: her gentle and generous nature, ladylike manner, sweet smile, love for her family and for all those around her – these remained to the very end.  Elli passed away in Victoria, peacefully and surrounded by family.

Our deepest gratitude goes out to all the staff at Sunrise Senior Living who took such good care of her.

A celebration of Elli’s life will be held on Saturday, January 30th, 2016 at 2pm, at McCall’s Funeral Home, Vancouver and Johnson Streets.

It is with heartfelt sadness that I offer my condolences for Elli’s passing. I am the Activity Assistant at Sunrise Senior Living and it was my absolute joy to spend time with Elli. Whenever our paths crossed I would always ‘dance’ with Elli in her wheel chair. I’d outstretch my arms to her, and she to me. We’d connect hands and whatever tune was playing in the background – it didn’t matter – we would ‘dance’. I would ‘lead’ and Elli had the biggest smile across her face the entire time! When the dance was over, Elli would ever so gently pull me close to her, hold my face in her tender hands and say in her sweet, slightly accented voice “you are so beautiful’. SHE made ME feel wonderful!- she was a very, very bright light at Sunrise. What an amazing woman! It was a pleasure to know Elli. She was the epitome of grace, elegance and charm. She spread much joy to many, and she will be missed by many.
With heartfelt condolences and warm memories to cherish,

hello, Robert, casey, Bernie and family members. my best wishes go out to you all. all our experiences, good or not so good , bring us to a greater understanding of life. usually to the betterment of ourselves when seen from the positive perspective. and often that was the perspective I feel Elli exemplified. what better way to spread joy and respect, than to Be that way ourselves!

    Elli’s Family,
My deep felt sympathy for your great loss. In the short time I knew Elli at Sunrise, I loved waving and smiling at her just to have her know I cared. When I asked her if she liked flowers, I would place a flower in her hand or in a water glass in her room. I know that Elli touched many hearts in her long life and she certainly touched mine. I explained to her how I would love to give her a Nygard necklace because she wore alot of Nygard clothes. I was so happy when she said ‘yes’. I shall never forget her.
