Dorothy Alberta Sutton (nee Blodgett) was born on June 25, 1914 in Edmonton, Alberta. She passed away peacefully at the wonderful age of 101 years young in her Oak Bay home where she resided for 75 years.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Albert Sutton in 1992; brothers, Harvey, Stanford and Roy Blodgett; great-nephew, Phillip Bartlett and Godson, Ian Morriss in 2011.

She is survived and will be missed by her nieces, Rhonda and Lorraine (Don); nephews, Barry and Harry as well as their families; great-nieces and great-nephews; great-great nieces and great-great nephews of which there are many; her Godson Ian’s wife (Gail) and their children.  She will be missed by so many wonderfully devoted friends and neighbours.  She had endeared herself to everyone she knew.

Special thanks to her caregiver, Helen Shermeta and caring friends, Barbara Dunn and Jane Nielson.

Dorothy led a remarkable life full of enthusiasm.  She was an inspiration to many.

After growing up a prairie girl, she moved to Victoria BC, where she would soon after arriving meet her husband to be.  She and Albert married the 27th April, 1938 at St. Peter’s Church in Edmonton, Alberta. They spent their entire married life living in Victoria, BC but travelled extensively.  They went on numerous trips including Hong Kong, Madrid, South Africa, just to name a few.  When her beloved Albert passed, she continued to travel with her nieces on cruises to Europe and even Antarctica.

When she was at home in Victoria, she could be seen at Uplands Golf Club either swinging a club or playing a game of Bridge.  She thoroughly loved her time spent with friends at the club.

Dorothy always loved sports.  As a young girl, she and her teammates of the Jasper Place Rustlers won the Northern Alberta Championship for Junior girls league in 1928-29 and 29-30. That early experience with a hockey stick would enable her to handle a golf club with ease and finesse. She loved watching Canadian football, hockey and all of the golf coverage over the years. She was an avid fan and had her favourites.

She loved her garden and home and took great pride in caring for it and sharing it with many.

She was loved and respected by so many people and will be missed by all.

Aunty Dorothy is reunited with Uncle Albert. Uncle Albert was the brother of my grandmother Ethel Pellowe. My mother was their niece Joyce, my brother lives in Canada and notified us of the news of her passing. I remember them travelling in Europe and visiting my grandmother several times in my younger days. Fond memories of a very elegant aunt. xx
