Doris was born in Montreal, PQ on May 14, 1919 to Ernest and Lottie Palmer. At 6 years old, her family of two brothers (Jack and Ernie) and one yet to be born sister, moved to Calgary, AB where she lived until she was 16.  Victoria, BC became her home living in the back of what became known as “Pop Palmer’s” store.  She lived in Victoria West and Esquimalt for the next 80 years.  Doris had children Eleen and Alfred with her first husband, Alfred Trainor, who died in WWII, and Clifford and Vincent with  her second husband, Ted Stefanek, who died of leukemia in 1954. Doris’ third husband, Ben Bennallack, passed away in 2010.  Though she went through many trials, Doris had humour and grace that improved everyone’s day while she lived at the Renaissance for the past 8 years. She has left behind many friends there.  Doris was predeceased by stepdaughter, Doreen (Ken) and is survived by sister, Helen; daughter, Eleen (Ron); sons, Alfred (Beverly), Clifford and Vince (Janice); 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Family was important to Doris, and she never let a birthday pass unnoticed.  We have many precious memories of family times together.  Doris passed into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, May 15, 2016, one day after her 97th birthday.

Special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Saanich Peninsula Hospital Palliative Care.

A Memorial to Doris will be held at McCall’s Downtown on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 12:00 pm.
