Dear John, Miranda, Peter and Thomas,

Our condolences on the passing of your mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. It was sad for us to hear this news, though it sounds like she was quite ill, and that it was a kind death, in her sleep. It’s a loss for all of you though, I’m sure. Your mother holds a good part of your history, John, and had a keen interest in all of your lives.
I didn’t know Muriel really well, John, as I mostly saw her during heady (and probably self-centred) high school days: shooting pool in your basement at lunch time, staging fishing and canoe trips out of your home. I do remember her scolding us for the language in ‘Barrett’s Privateers’ which we were playing on your living room stereo. But she was a warm, forebearing presence in your home. She clearly cared for you a lot, and wished to see you accomplished in music, in school, and in your community. All of which you have all certainly achieved. Now that she has taken rest from her recent ills in heaven, she can take even more pride in all of you.
We wish you fond memories, good tears of parting grief, wry reminiscences of who she was for you (both the good and the difficult). We have you in our hearts and prayers.
    Our love,
    Ken, Sandie and Adam
