August 21, 1943 – September 5, 2014

Our beloved husband, father, brother, and friend passed away at home surrounded by his loving family.  Mike was a kind hearted man who lived his life with integrity; persevering through adversity. A cowboy at heart, he was a born farmer and an exceptionally hard worker who took great pleasure in creating his impressive garden and farming his land in Metchosin. He is predeceased by his parents, Glady’s and Desmond Hourigan; his sisters, Colleen and Rosaleen and his aunt Mary.  He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Moira. Lovingly remembered by his children, Neely and Danny; brothers and sisters:  Kathleen, Pat (Kathy), Kevin, Lana, Maureen, Noreen (Allan) and Dan (Susan); nieces and nephews. Special thanks to  Lana – your reading was a highlight of Mike’s day and to Victoria Hospice & the Palliative Response Team for enabling us to keep him at home.

A service commemorating Mike’s life will be held at McCall’s Sequoia Gardens Memorial, 4665 Falaise Drive at 2 pm on Friday, September 12, 2014.  Interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park with a reception afterward at Sequoia Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to theVictoria Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Moira, I know we haven’t seen each other in over 30 years, but you were always such a kind and generous soul. The few times I met Mike, he matched you so perfectly. He was also a kind and gentle man. I am so sorry for you and your family’s great loss. He was far too young. Please know I am thinking of you and hoping that your wonderful memories will help ease your grief, Wendy Fitzgerald

I have never forgotten Michael’s words of encouragement and kindness to me over the many years I knew him. Very sorry to hear of his passing.

  • The Conrad Family

Deepest condolences to Moira, Neeley and Danny. Mike was a gentle giant, soft spoken and always so nice to us. He was my daD’s best friend from child hood on, growing up across Helmcken from eachother and was there for him when many others weren’t and we will ALWAYS appreciate what Mike and Moira did for him. I know that they are both together again, catching up, no more cares, no more pain.
If there’s anything we can do, don’t hesitate to ask.
All our best to all of you.
    Darren, Candie, Austin & Jaycob
