It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary in Victoria, BC on March 16, 2014.  She was born in Vancouver on August 6, 1932.  Mary was predeceased by her mother, Monica; her father, Thomas John; brother, Brian and infant daughter, Cherie Marie.  She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Ernest; daughter, Renee Mosi (Andrew); sons, Ryan (Crystal) and John; 4 beloved grandchildren, Julia, Liam, Kai and Noah; twin sister, Eileen Evans (Laurie); sister, Deirdre Thorsen (Jorgen); brothers, Farrell and Brendan (Colleen) and family members, Delia, Jean and Leone as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.  Mary grew up in Vancouver and Nelson (1943-46) and graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help in 1950 and St. Paul’s Hospital as an RN in 1954.  Mary’s sense of adventure led her to practice nursing in Montreal, New York and finally California where she worked until 1968 when she moved to Victoria to be married after meeting Ernest on a blind date.  Mary loved her family above all else and was dedicated to her husband, Ernest.  Mary loved being a mother and grandmother, was a wonderful cook, an expert crossword puzzle solver and a martini lover.  She will be remembered for her determination, independence and unwillingness to give up even under the most difficult circumstances.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 12 Noon at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 2060 Haultain Street in Victoria, BC. followed by a reception in the church hall.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Vancouver Island Kidney Patients’ Association in memory of Mary would be appreciated.  Our family is grateful to the first responders who tended to Mary and the staff and doctors, especially, Dr. Antonsen, in the renal unit at RJH who provided care over the last 3 years.  Finally, we would like to thank Marcela for her care and companionship.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.
