Mary Jane “May” Naduriak (nee Butler), 97, passed away on April 15, 2014 in Victoria. May was born in Ballymoney, Northern Ireland, on November 20, 1916. In her youth, she came to Canada on the ship“Montcalm” with her family and they settled on a farm in Vermillion, Alberta. In her twenties, she followed her younger sister Madge to the west coast and never left. May was often heard saying, “Victoria is so beautiful, I’ll never leave.” And despite her many trips to Reno, Waikiki and the United Kingdom, she loved Victoria the most. She will be remembered for her love of her family, her amazing garden and green thumb, and her energetic Irish spirit. In fact, she loved to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day as much as Christmas. She was also a great cook and everyone who came to May’s house left full.
May was predeceased by her husband of 51 years Steve (1997) and her son Bill (1984), as well as, all four of her younger siblings. She is survived and remembered by her daughters Merle (Keith) Anderson and Pat (Steve) Hansen; her grandchildren Neysa, Steph, Drew, Tricia, Suzie and her great-grand daughter Alyssa-Mae. In lieu of flowers, family request a donation to the Staff Appreciation Fund at Mount Edwards Court (1002 Vancouver St). Many thanks to the staff at Mount Edwards Court for their years of care.
A Funeral Service with reception to follow will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday April 24, 2014 at McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, Johnson and Vancouver Streets in Victoria.
