Mary Edith Walker (nee McKeachie)

In Memorial

WALKER, Mary Edith (nee McKeachie) May 10, 1922 September 19th, 2009 Mary Walker left us peacefully Saturday night to join her beloved, Bill. She will be deeply missed by daughters Susan Pfeifer (Norm), Jean Fyfe (Stewart), sons Bruce Walker, Murray Walker (Debra Roy), granddaughters Heather Fyfe (Hamish Mayhill), Michelle Fyfe (Eric Robinson) and treasured great-grandchildren Sylvie and Evan Mayhill. Mary is also survived by her brother Jimmy McKeachie (Joyce), and sister-in-law Peggy McKeachie. Mary was born and raised in Victoria in a house full of brothers. She graduated from Victoria High School and then worked for the Provincial Government. Bill Walker entered her life before WWII began; the two met through Mary’s brothers. She waited for him for the duration of the war and they were wed in Winnipeg in 1945. Mary’s life always centered around family and community. She kept all branches of the family tree connected through letters, phone calls, and international travel. Mary knew everyone in Victoria, and their grandparents! Her keen memory and often-told stories brought together family and friends through their shared histories. Mary’s favourite activities included playing bridge, curling, and baking delicious family recipes. Mary will be sadly missed by her many friends and family members all over the world. The family would like to thank the staff at Parkwood Place and Parkwood Court for their care and support over the past year. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, Johnson and Vancouver St, 2pm Thursday September 24. Reception to follow.
