Martha passed away peacefully at Royal Jubilee Hospital on August 14, 2014 at the age of 98 years.  Born in East End, Saskatchewan on June 2, 1916, she was predeceased by her brother, Marcel Jacquot and husband, George Kinch.  Martha is survived by her loving daughter, Louise (Thomas); lovingly remembered by grandchildren; Olivia, Alexander and Theresa, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Martha was an incredibly independent and kind person with a sparkle in her eye and a good sense of humour.  With her farmer roots in Saskatchewan in the early 1900’s and her cultural French heritage, she moved to Victoria and became a respected tailor and dress-maker with her Singer treadle sewing machine as her proudest possession.  She also served in the Army during WWII, worked as a Nurse’s Aid for many years and taught French until she was 83.  She was an active member in her local community of James Bay for many years.

Martha was an amazing woman and mother.  She was an experienced traveller enjoying the sights of Europe on her many visits.  She loved the arts, languages and good cuisine and made sure that her daughter was introduced to them correctly.  Martha believed that a slice of lemon per day was a key to a long life, apparently she was right!  During her last weeks, she had a re-occurring dream of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.  She probably made it to the top by August 14th.  She will be greatly missed.
