Marion Edworthy (nee Dale) passed away on September 26, 2015 after a brief illness. Born in Victoria in 1919, she was the youngest of the six offspring (Charles, Donovan, Doris, Rosalie and Rufus) of Alfred and Edith Dale. Marion lived most of her life in Victoria, going to Willows School and Oak Bay High School. Her first husband was Peter Brown, the father of her only offspring, Mark. After spending the War years in the Maritimes, they returned to Victoria where Peter worked for his adopted father, HR Brown, as a house builder. Marion contributed to the design of some of those houses as well as working in her brother’s delicatessen business and later her sister and brother-in-law’s florist shops. Mum also started her lifelong pastime in art, originally taking lessons from Herb Seibner. In the early 1960’s, mum changed careers and worked in the administration at St. Joseph’s Hospital lastly becoming secretary to the director of Nursing. It was at this time, too, that she joined the Outdoor Club of Victoria with which she remained a lifelong member hiking most of the club’s hikes and leading some favorites. She also took up sailing and was an active member of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club frostbite fleet sailing her black El Toro dinghy “Molly”. In 1967, she and her son had a yearlong adventure travelling around Europe; one of her fondest memories. Upon their return to Victoria, Marion enrolled at UVic and became qualified as a school teacher and was the last teacher at the one room Old Koksilah School south of Duncan. After several years of summer school, mum completed her B. Ed, the only one of her siblings to complete a university degree. Marion married Bert Edworthy and they enjoyed almost 30 happy years together, being active members of the Saanich Fair poultry group and the Juan de Fuca Seniors Association and spending winters in the Palm Springs area. Marion led the watercolour painting group at Juan de Fuca Seniors for many years and made many friends there. She was a past member of the Lower Island Ladies Golf Association, the Windsor Park Painting Club and Peggy Packard’s poetry group. Marion loved life and living in Victoria regularly walking the waterfront and the Breakwater (her parents’ worked at the Albert Head quarry during the construction of the breakwater).

Marion had a very large group of friends and is survived by her son, Mark Brown (Leona); stepdaughter, Gail Fleury (Ian); grandson, Jeremy and granddaughter, Megan.

Many thanks to the staff at RJH, Third floor North, to Dr. DeMott who provided caring support to mum during her last days, and to Lesley Lynn who provided companion support in recent months.
