Mario died with all possible comfort at Victoria General Hospital on September 19, 2015.

Born in Italy on August 7, 1937, he immigrated to Canada with his family where they started a new life in Guelph, Ontario. Mario worked in both the Radio Astronomy and the Hertzberg Institute of Space Physics departments of The National Research Council, Ottawa, Ontario. His reputation for excellence and resourceful design was well acknowledged, but his kindness and unselfishness was the sweetest part of him down to his last days in hospital. Mario will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Kamilla; his step-son, Solomon and his wonderful friends that he loved so much.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at McCall’s Funeral Home, Johnson & Vancouver Streets. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Belmont Park in Colwood on Thursday, September 24 at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Hatley Memorial Gardens.

I would like to thank all of you kind people who wrote in with such kind comments it is so lovely to have them. I do apologise for not thanking everyone sooner but I only just found them on the internet today, March 21 2019! Oh the wonders of the computer! I found others from a different source but not these ones. What a nice surprise. Bless all of you!

I have just learned of Mario’s death, and am very sorry to hear of it. My office at NRC was immediately next to Mario’s, and we often spoke of many things, related to both work and life in general. He was my “go-to guy” if I needed almost anything. I offer my sincere condolences to his family.

Here it is May, 2016 so quite a shock to learn of Mario’s death last September. Mario and I were friends all the way through NRC years and even before that as fellow students for three years in Toronto. I did speak with him by phone in Victoria a few years ago; he was always asking about our family.

Sincere condolences to Kamilla and family.

Dear Kamilla: I found your wedding invitation today while going through some old papers and wondered how you and Mario were doing. I began to search on-line to see if we could reconnect, and discovered to my dismay that Mario passed on less than 6 months ago. Please accept my deepest and sincerest condolences. Your husband had a great and positive influence on me growing up. He worked at the NRC in Ottawa with my father, and agreed to be my godfather. He was often in our home and did his very best to be a good mentor for a head-strong only child. He always made time for me, taught me how to downhill ski (a trial of patience, but he prevailed), frequently acted as lifeguard at the local swimming spot, and tried to teach me how to drive (that didn’t go so well). I hope you’ve had many friends and family around you as support. He will be missed, but not forgotten. Hugs.

My friend Mario has gone to a better place where suffering does not exist. I will miss our discussions and his visits.
My deepest condolences to Kamilla and Solomon.

    Kamilla and family,

I just heard today of Mario’s passing. It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I offer you and the family our condolences. I very much enjoyed the working and personal relationship I had with Mario, his exceptional knowledge of electronics and ability to communicate this knowledge will be fondly remembered.
Memories will always be there for you and will keep him close.

Sorry to hear of Mario’s passing.

As neighbours we will always remember you feeding your “deer family” and the joy it brought you as witnessed by your smile whenever the fawns would come close.

    Rest in Peace.

  • Paul and Olga

Sorry to hear of Mario passing. Mario was a neighbour and we would on occasion chat about the news of the day. I often kidded him he could turn a slug into real money. Our condolence to the family.
