Lorelei O’Byrne (nee Macdonald)

Lorelei O’Byrne (nee Macdonald)

Passed away peacefully in Victoria BC, surrounded by her family on January 28, 2010. Predeceased by her father, Rod, Lorelei is survived by her husband Dave; children Krystal & Ryan; mother Iolene; brothers Keith (Sandy), Greg (Alana) & their families; mother-in-law Eunice.
Lorelei was born in Vancouver on November 20, 1953. She was raised in Coquitlam and graduated from Nursing School in 1975. Dave and Lorelei were married in 1980 and had two children, Krystal & Ryan. Lorelei was a strong and determined woman who put her heart into everything in her life. She found great fulfillment as an RN in the recovery room at VGH from 1980-2008. Lorelei’s passion and love was her family. She was incredibly proud to see Krystal obtain her MD and to see Ryan reach the NHL echelon of hockey with the Montreal Canadiens. Lorelei approached breast cancer in the same way she approached life – head on. She fought until the very end. Her love of life and spirit will be dearly missed by all.
Thank you to the wonderful people at Victoria Hospice, to Dr. Sharon Allan & the BCCA staff and to all of our family and friends for their love and support.
A celebration of Lorelei’s life will be held at McCall’s Floral Chapel, Johnson & Vancouver St., on Tuesday, February 16th at 2:00pm. A reception at the Victoria Golf Course will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria Hospice or the BC Cancer Agency.

  17. Alex J. Glass on February 4th, 2010 9:33 am

    Dear Ryan and Family,

I wish to offer my condolences. I have lost many people, some tragically, with no closure, and in those cases, the subjects were still young and full of life. At this time, I say a prayer for a loving welcome in Heaven for your mother, and I ask her to inspire you to follow bravely and with joy your special path in this life. The people whom we love should live forever, yet they do, in a different way, and we will be reunited with them later on. There is one part of the writings of Saint Paul which has been of great consolation to me, when I was sad, it is that life doesn’t end, it is merely transformed. A lot of meaning in few words. All the best to you and your entire family at this time.

year. I will miss my dear sweet friend always………I love you sweet

your most important one in life and you did it so well. Bye for now.

    Dear Dave, Crystal and Ryan:
It is with a very heavy heart that I send these words of sorrow and condolences to all of you. Lorelei was a beautiful, generous and strong soul and I will always remember our times together. Not only working for years in the Recovery room, but the times she and I and several other young mothers with new babies would get together to laugh and cry and help each other with advice on our new “careers” as mothers. It was a role Lorelei loved the best and I know she is so proud of you.
Be strong and try to remember the happy times…and know that there are so many friends keeping all of you in our hearts and prayers.
    Love & hugs,
    Barbara, Devon & Brannon

    Hello Dave, Krystal, and Ryan,
I had hoped to see you in person today but was not able to attend the reception at the golf course. It was a lovely service for a lovely person. Lorelei was one of my most favorite people in the world. I agreed whole heartedly with everything that was said about her today. I am so glad she had, what were obviously, given the testimonies today, these many wonderful years with you. And I am glad that I had a number of years being her friend too.
    Sincerely,

My deepest sympathy to the O’byrne and Mac Donald families. I am so saddened by Lorelei’s passing. We were highschool friends, cheerleaders at Montgomery Jr. Secondary, buddies at Centennial. After highschool I bumped into Lorelei at VGH in the cafeteria, my daughter was in intensive care there, Lorelei was true to form! Caring, compassionate and a valued friend. My heart is with you at this time.
