On June 6, 2014, peacefully after a brief illness, beloved wife of Gerald Moorhouse Walls, dear mother of Rev. Donald Walls. Eldest daughter of Herbert and Mary Maunder, she was predeceased by her parents, an infant daughter, her sisters Ida Sutherland and Margaret Baldwin and niece Joan Redpath. She is survived by nephew Robert Baldwin, great-niece Vicki Redpath, great-nephew Clinton Redpath and families, also by cousins in Scotland and Alberta. Lily was born in Rutherglen, Scotland, on September 15, 1919. Three months later her father brought his wife and daughter to Saskatchewan, where Lily and her sisters grew up in the village of Vanguard. Before her marriage she worked for the local telephone office and later became its manager. She married her husband on May 30, 1942. After his service with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, they moved to Saskatoon, where he attended university. In 1948 they moved to Ottawa, where he began his career in the civil service. Later they lived in Victoria before being transferred to Ottawa. Upon retirement they returned to Victoria and had an active retirement. Lily was a volunteer with the Canadian National Institute For the Blind for 55 years. In Ottawa she coordinated volunteers and ran the CNIB craft shop. She assisted her husband and son with the cross-country ski group for the blind. She was active in the CNIB Women’s Auxiliary and boards in Ottawa and Victoria. She was president of the ladies’ sections of Ottawa’s Granite Curling Club, the Victoria Curling Club and the 800 Pacific Wing Air Force Club. She was never happier than when hosting dinners for family and friends, and all of us enjoyed her culinary prowess. Skilled with needle, for most of her life she enjoyed making her own clothes and hats. A loving caregiver, she cared for her family and many friends. Even in her last years, when her health limited her, she still wanted to help and care for others. We are thankful for the kind care she received from head nurse Sandra Kyle and staff at Berwick House.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 23, 2014 at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 3821 Cedar Hill Rd. Lily always said, “Give me my flowers while I’m living.” In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CNIB through the Victoria service centre at 2340 Richmond Rd., Victoria, BC V8R 4R9. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

    Message for Gerry Walls

Deepest sympathy, Gerrry. Having experienced the loss of my wife Janette just last week, I completely understand the pain of losing a loved one.
Please give my regards to Donny. Some of my kids are still here in my Ottawa house, and remember all of you and your kindness to our family over the years.
