July 6, 1977-October 1, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Bath who left us way too early at the age of 38 from sudden heart complications. A loving father and husband Larry dedicated his life to family and work. He could not abide idleness and when he wasn’t turning a wrench on a Helicopter at work he was swinging a hammer at home. Larry was born in Brampton, Ontario moving to Victoria at the age of 2 years. He attended Lake Hill, Royal Oak and graduated from Claremont Secondary School in 1995. He then pursued a career in aviation mechanical engineering, graduating from BCIT and spent the majority of his working life with Vancouver Island Helicopter (VIH). He leaves to mourn his wife Niurka, daughter Anaya and step-son Alberto, parents Nelson and Jean Bath, brother Nelson (Sandra, Deidre, Bruce) brother Gregory (Teresa, Nathan, Emily, Michael), aunts, uncles, god parents and many friends. In his youth Larry was an avid Lacrosse, Hockey and Basketball player. Thanks to the paramedics for their efforts. Larry will be in our hearts forever.

A Visitation will be held from 6:30 – 8:30 pm Thursday, October 8, 2015 at McCall Bros. Memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, October 9, 2015 at MCCALL’S FLORAL CHAPEL AND RECEPTION CENTRE, Johnson & Vancouver Street, Victoria, BC with a reception to celebrate Larry’s life to follow. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Like so many others who have commented, I was shocked to hear of Larry’s passing. We met briefly many years ago when he was at VIH and I recall him to be friendly and upbeat. He was also known by a number of our technicians here at Rotor Maxx Support, all of whom hold Larry in the same high regard.

On behalf of us all. I offer sincere condolences and sympathy to Niurka, Anaya and Alberto and wishes of comfort for the other members of his family.

  • Judy and Russ Brown and Family

    Jean and Nelson,
We were shocked to hear of Larry’s passing, he was such an engaging kid and always with a big smile. Hard to believe that more than 30 years have passed since we were neighbors. Russ had a funny story to share…especially poignant when a hammer was mentioned in the obit. Russ was working on something in our carport and Larry was over playing with the boys, he noticed that Russ had two hammers and asked him if he needed both because he said that Nelson didn’t have one and since Russ had two maybe he could give one of them to Larry to take home to his Dad. Please accept our sincere condolences , we know this must be very shocking and sad for you both and Nelson ,Greg and their families and of course Larry’s wife and children. Our thoughts are with you. Sincerely Russ, Judy, Deb, Clint and Blair Brown

Very sad to hear this news of Larry. I worked with Larry for a short while during my time at VIH Aerospace. Larry stood out as a warm, bright and energetic young man. It was obvious that he was happy to be part of aviation and was keen and driven to continue training and further develop his skills. I always enjoyed talking to Larry, feeling like everyone else that Larry was a good guy to be around, great to work with and noted his respect and caring for others.
My thoughts go out to his family and friends during what must be a very difficult time.

I have known Larry for almost 15 years and can only associate joy and laughter with that experience. I saw him not long ago after a period of at least two years where I hadn’t seen him and it was as if only hours had passed. A very easy guy to get to know and impossible not to like. I am shaken that he has passed on so young with so much yet to achieve and so much love yet to give.

Heartfelt condolences to all friends and family in your time of loss.
