Kenneth Muir Maunder

Ken Maunder was born on May 22^nd, 1924 in Eyebrow,Saskatchewan. Ken was the third child of ten for Tom and Ada Maunder and he grew up living and working on the homestead farm. Ken lost his oldest brother, James, in World War II while he and his brother John were also serving inEurope. In the Navy, Ken was a stoker on theSt. John which was part of the Murmansk Run in theNorthern Atlantic. After the war, Ken married a hometown girl a few farms over from his, Mabel Emma Lavinia Leggott – “Dolly”. Ken and Dolly tried farming, but after their first daughter, Bonnie, was born in 1953, they moved toVictoria,BC. where their second daughter, Deborah, was born in 1957. Ken could turn his hand to anything and was creative and inventive. Everything he worked on was completed with perfection, including motor repairs, furniture refinishing, stained glass and cooking. He was dedicated to his exercise routine, walking and biking once or twice daily until he was 86. He worked at Olsen Motors for several years and then with the BC Ferries from the inaugural run to his retirement. Two homes were built for his family inVictoria, one onTattersal Street and one on Moxon Terrace inNorth Saanich. He also helped many of his family to build or renovate, including a lodge in Northern Alberta for his brother George and Bonnie’s home inSooke,BC. Ken lost his Dolly in 1978, but found joy in his large family and his daughters — especially his grandchildren, Stephanie (born 1976) and Ken (born 1979 – married to Abby), followed by his great-grandchildren, Lily (born 2008) and Alice (born 2011).
