July 18, 1926 – February 13, 2014

After a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease, our amazing little mom passed away with her family by her side.  Predeceased by her beloved husband, Marc and cherished brother, Norman.  Kathleen leaves her two daughters, Jacqueline (Randy) and Kim (Jeff) who helped her together with careworkers, ECU at Saanich Peninsula Hospital to maintain quality of life for the past several years.  She also leaves her grandchildren, Shanna (Vic)), Mark (Sharon), Devon (Justin), and Jaime (Jacob) and her great-grandsons, Jhett and Luca.  Mom was born to George and Mary Clarke in Carlisle, England.  She met and fell in love with Marc and as a War Bride travelled by ship to Canada to meet and start a family.  Kathleen was a loving, giving woman with a heart as big as the world.  Her life and legacy was the importance of family and friends.  She had abundant energy and many diverse interests, first and foremost, her love of the stage, music and dance.

A Celebration of Life will be held in McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014.  Donations to Saanich Peninsula Hospital and/or a random act of kindness would be appreciated. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

My sincere condolences to your family. The last time I saw Mark and Kay was at my mothers funeral. I have many fond memories of tales told by my parents from your parents days at the Sterling Apts. and then on Prior St. Apparently at about five years old my friend Dave K. and I painted your parents car with a tin of housepaint we had found around the building. Dave and I still dispute who’s great idea that was! Kay was always in touch with my mom and mom always talked fondly of Kay and your Dad over the many years of their friendship. Your parents will always be remembered by me with great fondness. Regards, Martin

My deepest sympathy to the family of Kathleen Coupal.
When I was about 10 or 12 years old, Kaye and Marc moved into the basement apartment across the street from us on Bowker Avenue. Kaye had such energy and joy and was like an older sister to the three Aubel girls. Whenever my sisters and I get together and talk about the old days, Kathleen’s name comes up and we all have a smile on our face remembering those happy times. I am sure she affected many people the same way.
Even though it was a short time they lived there, the good memories will always be with us.

I was sorry and sad to hear of Kathleen’s passing. She and Marc were such a loving couple. My memories of Kathleen go back to the drama at the Juan de Fuca Senior Centre. We were also in tap dancing together. And did Kathleen dance! You could tell she loved it. Kathleen and Marc were also in our Sign Language Class. I can’t think of a time when Kathleen said a mean word about anyone. She was a gentle and friendly lady.
My condolences to Jacaqueline and Kim who brought Kathleen to her tap dancing when she was unable to come on her own.
Kathleen’s friends from the centre will be unable to attend her service as we are putting on a variety show Saturday afternoon.
    Sincerely,
    Marilyn French.
