IZARD, Professor, John Arthur Whitaker, FEIC/LMCSME, P.Eng. Born in Victoria, January 12, 1920, died peacefully at his home overlooking the Saanich Inlet on 24 January 2006.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Cynthia (only daughter of Arthur and Olive Musgrave); his three children, Margot in Duncan, Ted (Liga) next door, & John (Janet) in Brampton ON; two grandchildren, Roger (Sabrina) in Burlington ON, Douglas in Pickering ON; one great grandson, Luke; his brother Patrick (Elizabeth nee Angus), his niece Patricia and six nephews, Ian, Dick, Bruce, Andrew, Angus, David and their families; his sister-in-law, Pamela Izard in Plymouth U.K. He was pre-deceased by; his parents, E.W. and Eleanor Izard; his sister Margaret Twining (John); and his elder brother, Theodore (Pamela), Engineer Officer in HMCS Athabaskan, sunk in enemy action in 1944.

In 1936, with his father in charge of the installation of the tower bells in Christ Church Cathedral, Arthur at age 16 assisted and thereafter rang the bells for 68 years. From the time of his retirement from Royal Roads in 1978 to 2004, he served Christ Church Cathedral, including the Parish Council, delegate to the Synods, Rector’s Warden, member of Cathedral Buildings Ltd. and many other committees. Naval Service, 1941-1945, in DEMS on both the east and west coasts. Employed as Assistant Superintendent at Yarrows Ltd. 1946-1948. Member of the staff of H.M.C. Royal Roads for 30 years, from Lecturer to Department Head of the Engineering Department, 1948-1978. 1957-1959, laid out the playing fields, designed the mechanical services and supervised the rebuilding of both St. Michael’s School and Brentwood College, where he was educated.

The Funeral will be held at CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL, corner of Quadra and Rockland on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at 2pm.

Donations in Arthur’s memory will be gratefully accepted by either the Christ Church Cathedral Buildings Limited, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
