Service Announcement

Jack was born and raised in Calgary, AB. the son of Alfred and Blanche (nee Welsh) Probert. He enlisted in the RCAF in 1939 as an aircraft mechanic. While on leave during the war, he met Muriel (Mickey) James. They were married in 1944. After the war he worked for Canadian Pacific Airlines until they closed their facilities in Calgary in 1963. Jack went back to school and graduated from the UofA with a teaching degree. He taught automotive mechanics at Ernest Manning High School in Calgary from 1968 to 1983, when he and Mickey retired to Victoria. Jack was predeceased by Mickey in 1995. He is survived by his loving partner for the past twelve years, Estelle Ingram, his two sons, Barry Probert (Debra) of Surrey, BC and Neil Probert (Eva-Lynn) of Calgary, AB; grandchildren Chris Probert (Jessica), Dan Probert (Anneliese), Erin Lopaschuk (Mark) and Jill Probert (Mike Carriere), great grandchildren Soleil, Odin, Emmett and William, his sister Kathleen (Pat) Haig and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was always helpful to neighbours, friends and family. He was very easy-going and devoted to his family. He enjoyed travelling, and saw all parts of the world, especially on the many cruises he took with Estelle. Jack was an active Mason with St. Marks Masonic Lodge #118 in Calgary and Henderson Masonic Lodge #84 in Victoria. He was also a volunteer for a number of charities, including the Monterey Seniors Centre in Victoria, where he made thousands of sandwiches, took part in the theatre group, and played many games of bridge, a game he loved to play. The family would like to thank the staff of the Lodge at Broadmead.

A Memorial Service will be held in McCall’s Floral Chapel, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 13, 2015 with a reception to follow.  If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Broadmead Care Society in Victoria or any Alzheimer’s Society.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

    Our sincere condolences with the passing of Jack to Estelle and all his family. We have many Happy Memories having delightful Dinners together. Jack always surprised us with his culinary expertise and table settings at our Gourmet New Comers Dinner Group.
