Janet Marie Hastings (1935-2014) passed away in the early hours of October 15, 2014 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital after a brief illness. Janet is survived by her daughter Rachel Bishop, her brother Ray Kosan, and her former husband and friend Keith Hastings.  She was the daughter of the late Mary and Louis Kosan of Port Colborne, Ontario.

Anyone who met Janet was inspired by her uplifting spirit and kindness. Her inner strength was apparent to all.  She loved her family with every ounce of her being.  She always made those around her feel special, having a genuine interest in others.  We are all better for having known her.

Mom, you were a beautiful, intelligent, wise and amazing Mother. I love you and thank you with all of my heart.

You will be forever missed.

At Janet’s request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a charity of your choice.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Janet’s daughter, Rachel Bishop.
Their relationship was a very special one well beyond even the usual very close mother/daughter bond.
Rachel selflessly devoted a great deal of her time and energy to help her mother through her various health challenges during the past few years.
I know that Janet’s sudden passing has been a profound shock to Rachel but I hope that the many fond memories that she shared with her mother will help sustain her through this difficult time.

I was blessed to have Janet as a loving sister and dear friend.
It was in Janet’s nature to be helpful and supportive towards others and this was certainly true in my case as she consistently guided and advised me through many difficult times over the years. I will be forever grateful to have had Janet as an integral part of my life’s journey and I’m sure her many friends echo this heartfelt emotion.

God bless you Janet Marie and may your soul rest in ever lasting peace,

    Your loving brother
    Ray Kosan
