July 14, 1923 –July 5, 2015

An exceptionally kind and understanding gentleman recently passed away. Jim is survived by his dear partner of 32 years, Meryle Hays, her three children: Greg (Syl), Cathy (Steve) and Michael; his daughters Laurie and Jane; His grandchildren Curtis and Erin; and his sister Vera and her five children. He was predeceased by his two brothers, his sister Joy and his first wife Cecilia.

Jim was a career civil servant, culminating with his roles in labour relations where he played a major part in the development of the improved labour code, and as the chair of the human rights board.

Jim loved music, especially jazz, and played the saxophone in a small group. He also loved the outdoors and played a good hand of bridge, as well as a great round of golf. In his later years he was an active member of various discussion groups and a seasoned traveller.

He was loved by everyone who met him and will be sorely missed. We greatly appreciate the attention he received from the caring staff of Mount St. Mary Hospital.
Donations in remembrance may be made to the Mount St. Mary Foundation, 861 Fairfield Road, Victoria, BC V8V 5A9.

A private celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date.
