February 17, 1921 to January 19, 2014

Bob passed away peacefully on January 19, 2014 in Hospice with his wife and daughters at his side. Predeceased by his father and mother, Jim and Violet; brother Gordon, and sisters Mildred, Audrey and Marion. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Cay, and daughters Barbara and Susan all living in Victoria. He grew up in Regina and attended one year of university in Winnipeg before joining the Regina Rifles. Bob served in WW2 on the European Front. He was discharged from the army as a lieutenant in 1946 and returned to Regina where he took over his father’s business as a manufactures’ agent for Stanfield’s Underwear and McGregor Socks. Bob married Cay in 1947 and remained in Regina raising their daughters Barbara and Susan. They spent their summers at Katepwa Lake. Bob retired in 1982 and spent most winters in Arizona. They moved to Victoria in 1995. Bob loved the lake, sailing, golf, bridge, and was active in many organizations. He especially loved his family and the many friends he made throughout his life. Bob will be missed by many.

Special thanks to Veterans Health Centre where Bob attended a program on Fridays. To Henderson Recreation Centre and Barb where he went to the gym and after turning 90 went for free. To Sprindrift for all the wonderful times spent there. To Roy, Rosalie and Mary who gave him such wonderful care. To the doctors and nurses at the Royal Jubilee Hospital and Hospice who cared for Bob since being hospitalized on December 31, 2013.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Goward House, 2495 Arbutus Road, Victoria on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 2 to 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at the charity of your choice or the Victoria Hospice Foundation. Condolences for the family may be offered at www.mccallbros.com.

    Dear Cay, Barbara & Susan
We were so very sorry to read your lovely obituary recently of Bob’s passing. Bob was so much fun and we thoroughly enjoyed his input at our “Pat Styles” lunches at the Victoria Golf Club each month.
…and with the weather getting better, it is time we had you out sailing again in Sea Vixen, Barbara and Susan.
You are all very much in our thoughts.
    Migs

Dear Cay, Barb and Susan, I will always remember the times we would drop in at the cottage and the warm feelings that were always created by both Bob and Cay. Who could not love Bob’s great laugh! Bob will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. My sympathy to you at this difficult time.

  • Barb Crosby

Bob brought laughter into my dad’s life every time they were together. He became a happier person with Bob. The Crosby’s loved having Bob and Cay around because it meant everyone would be having a good time. To bring such joy into all of our lives is a true gift. The memories I hold onto are the great times with the Searles – remember the time Barb brought some “stuff” back from Fiji…? Hilarious.
Love to Cay, Barb and Susan.

  • Janet Crosby

Dear Cay, Barb and Susan, I was so sorry to hear of Bobs death. I remember him as such a lighthearted man, and his presence at the cottage made the summer more “light” as well. I know mom and dad would share these sentiments. I hope your memories provide comfort as this time. Sincerely, Janet

Just read of Bob’s passing in the Leader Post. I have known Bob since Grade 3 at Lakeview school. We always reminisced when we saw each other at a party!
He was a great guy and I always enjoyed seeing him.
Lois joins me in sending you all our deepest sympathy. Hugh MacKenzie

  • Manley and Marjorie LaFoy

    Cay, Barb and Susan,
Part of the joy that we experienced at the Katepwa cottage involved the antics of Bob and Fred Brown. Now, they are both gone, but our memories are still fresh. Bob was a decent, and true friend. He was always ready to lend a hand, and his good deeds were many.
We shared many “happy hours” at their cottage and his jovial personality. He will be missed by many. Please accept our condolences at this time.
We are in Santa Barbara and will raise a glass to him.
    Manley and Marge. LaFoy
