Surrounded by love and in the comfort of her home, Mom passed away peacefully on March 7, 2015.
She was born in Achadinha, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal on November 5, 1926. However, Victoria has been her home since immigrating to Canada in January 1957.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Antonio (Tony) Eduardo Moniz along with 7 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her 7 children, Eduardo, Ermelinda (Jose), Maria (Mike), Rosa (Harry), Carlos (Kelly), Lidia (Tom), Tony (Kellie); 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother Tony and a large extended family.
Her early years in Victoria were spent caring for her children but also included working at Butchart Gardens until her retirement in 1991. 35 years were enjoyed on their hobby farm in Sidney with final years in Saanich; throughout all, there was the support and love from the Victoria Portuguese Community. Mom will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A special thank you to the Victoria Hospice Palliative Response Team that aided in her comfort at home in her final days.
Prayers will be offered at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 4635 Elk Lake Drive, on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 7:45pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima parish on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to Victoria Hospice.

Frances Dodsworth I remember meeting your parents, Eduardo and the twins at the Victoria Airport in 1957. The girls had red dresses and pink ribbons in their hair or pink dresses and red ribbons. Your family was the first of the Portuguese to come to Victoria. Your parents contributed so much to the Gardens. My most sincere condolences on your loss.

Charlene Kendall Burles Words can’t not express what I felt for Mrs Moniz. She was a truly warm and loving family woman. I saw her so devoted to her family and faith. She loved all her children and grandchildren so much. She was so kind and hard working and made the best Portuguese rice pies ever!
