1930 – 2014

Harvey Ross Boyle passed away peacefully on September 7, 2014 at the age of 84. As a long term year resident of Victoria, Harvey was an active participant in his church family.  Enjoying many outings and visits with friends, Harvey was always up for a trip or an adventure.  He often returned to his roots and visited many friends in Alberta and Manitoba.  As a career salesman, Harvey was based in Calgary with David L Jones florist wholesaler and for his job he travelled throughout the prairie provinces.  He gained an appreciation for the diverse communities and grew many friendships.

Born August 1, 1930 and raised in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba to Earl Robinson Boyle and Jessie (nee Ross) Boyle, he was predeceased by his only sibling Donald in 2009. The brothers were very close and often met either in Manitoba or in Victoria to holiday, tour, visit family and friends, and to reminisce. Harvey was very proud of his three nephews Merle, Lorne and Jonathon Boyle and enjoyed sharing in their accomplishments in sports, education, careers, and particularly their growing and very busy families. Harvey loved extended summer and Christmas gatherings, particularly where food was involved! All who knew Harvey could list his characteristics: his grandeur in height and spirit, his gentleness, TBirds, his love of all aspects of gardening and especially his love of food. It is a Boyle trait that no meal is completed until the dessert tray is empty. Christmas season is time of preparation; that is baking of the annual box of goodies to send to be sent – boxes came from many families and Harvey’s table must have been quite a sight with the volumes and varieties of treats. In return, Harvey’s gifts of flower arrangements were prominent on the families’ festive tables. As member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years, he regularly arranged flowers for services, an activity that he loved for he held that community dearly in his heart.  Harvey later became a very involved member of Glad Tidings Church eagerly participating in many activities and nurturing many friendships.
Please join us in a celebration of Harvey’s life. Arrangements have been made for an afternoon service on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Glad Tidings Church 1800 Quadra Street, Victoria BC, V8T 4B9 with Pastor Don Allan officiating.

As mentioned by Harvey a number of times, complete faith in God and the Lord Jesus had made him the man he was, a humble servant and friend to all. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but shall have everlasting life” John 3:16.  In planning to go home to the Lord, Harvey had arranged his final resting place to be in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, forever surrounded by his family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations are kindly requested to Glad Tidings Church, in memory of Harvey. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I volunteered with Harvey at the North Park Manor Wednesday lunches. He generously gave of his time and his love of flowers and flower arranging with us. He always had a big smile on his face and a warm greeting for all. To his family and friends: may your treasured memories of Harvey always serve to keep him within your hearts. At rest with his Lord.
