It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harry Loucas, husband to Katherine, father to Christina and Stephanie.  He passed away peacefully with his family by his side in Victoria Hospice on September 29, 2015. He will be deeply missed by his three angels, future son in law Petros, his brother and sister, his extended family in Cyprus and his friends.

Born in Cyprus in 1936, he lived and worked in Cyprus, England and across Canada until settling in Victoria in the 1960s, a place he loved. As a restaurateur, he helped open Hy’s Steakhouse in the 1960s, managed Little Harry’s in Hillside Shopping Mall and owned the Plaza Restaurant in the 1970s, and built and opened the Oxford Arms Pub in the early 1990s. Most importantly to him, he built the Victoria Harbour House Restaurant in 1980 which he ran until 2007. Though it was hard work, we know he loved every day he spent there with the people he worked with and the friends he made there.

He was a friend and mentor to many people. He was humble, considerate, compassionate, generous, wise and had a wonderful sense of humour. He was well-respected by all. He was always proud of his family, but we were more proud of him. We thank the staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital who made every effort to make his stay more comfortable, and the staff at Victoria Hospice for their kindness and support. One of his finals wishes is a simple one, and we believe reflects his kindness in spirit: it is for people to say only nice things about each other.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Greek Orthodox Church with a celebration of life to follow afterwards downstairs in the hall. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that donations please be made to Victoria Hospice or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

I have just learned that Harry has passed away, and I’d like to extend my sincere condolences to all of you. I’m so sorry and saddened to hear this. Harry was a wonderful fellow who imparted some great advice to me over the years, a generosity of spirit and genuine gestures of friendship. that I have never forgotten. My daughter, Gillian, said he was the best boss she ever had when she briefly worked for him as a busperson at Harbour House, and this really didn’t surprise me. I was sorry to hear that the memorial service has taken place already, so I wasn’t able to attend, but I will never forget Harry.

  • MARIA KAMBOURI

Harry hi, or best, farewell Pambo.

Right now im sitting alone.I close my eyes and let my mind take me back to the past, our childhood years. When we were all together. A shadow passed by and whispered something. Asoul said hi! I think its your soul.
    Im fighting with memories.
You see, memories are not weeds that you can root out from your heart.
I get lost in memories, thoughts, feelings of the past.
Beautiful years when we were all together wiith our parents. Rough, hard years but filled with love.
    You did not leave Harry.
People who leave are the ones that nobody remembers, nobody loved. Those who loved and were loved they just rest by the side of god.
Rest my brother and wait for me. I told you that it was my turn but you didnt listen. You always followed your own desisions.
You were far away from us but that meant nothing. Family means people who trully love and have a life bond together. And we are all family.
We are all travellers, with a suitcase in hand and the only thing that can fit in, is love. The heavier the suitcase the lighter the travel.
Love is the only thing that death cannot erase, ever!
Have a good journey to heaven my brother, you will have good company, our parents, our brothers and sisters.
Heaven is the appreciation and the love we earn from people in our life. Its the love of your two girls, Christina and Stephanie, and the love of your beloved Katerina.
It lays in the hearts of the people.

Until we meet again my brother.

Katherine, Christina. and Stephanie, I would extend to you all my most sincere condolences…I always thought of Harry as my Uncle Harry too! When I was a young girl I loved his laughing and teasing me. I’ll always think of him that way. It was great to catch up with him back in 2001 when I was in London with Steve and my sisters, and I was very pleased that he remembered me so well. Take good care; I shall endeavour to honour his wishes by always being positive with those I encounter and being kind in my turn as well. My love and thoughts are with you all at this difficult time and I pray you shall all find comfort as time passes.
