Harold, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC on April 19, 2015.  He leaves to mourn his son, Norman (Claudia) of Ottawa and his daughter, Carol (Richard) Heatherington of Victoria as well as grandchildren, (Morgane, Lina and Eleanor Riddell and Colin, Craig and Kirsten Heatherington), great grandchildren (Justin, Sacha, Luca, Jerome, Liyah, Valentina, Darrian, and Jordan), his sisters-in-law Isabelle Dahl, Hazel Belsher and Dorothy Schneider, his brother-in-law Everett Evans and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  Harold was predeceased by his wife Ruth, and his sisters, Elsie and Florence.

Born 15 March 1919 in Brownlee, Saskatchewan to Alva and Florence Riddell, he completed his public and high school in Brownlee and then graduated from the School of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon in 1941.  In 1943 he married Ruth Evans and brought her to live in Brownlee where he farmed.  In 1960 they moved to Saskatoon, but he continued to farm commuting between Brownlee and Saskatoon until 1969 when they moved to Calgary and started a new career building four-plexes.  Following retirement, he moved to Sidney, British Columbia and then to Victoria where he and his wife were faithful members of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Together, he and Ruth enjoyed travelling (Europe, Australia, Canada and the States) and many cruises.

Harold was a man of many talents but his primary love was woodworking and he was often called upon to use his carpentry skills in the building of a number of churches in Saskatchewan.  For his family and friends he built model planes, boats, cupboards, furniture and doll houses. His sincere love for his family and concern for their welfare will always be remembered with deep gratitude.  He was always on the sidelines supporting his family and helping them to succeed.  He will be especially remembered for his integrity, quiet kindness, generosity and his keen sense of humor.

A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2121 Cedar Hill X Road, on Monday 27 April at 1:30 PM followed by a reception where the immediate family will receive family and friends. The family wish to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for the compassionate care provided during his short stay.  Donations in lieu of flowers in Harold’s memory may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church for those wishing to do so.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Just learned of Uncle Harold’s passing today. I know that he is happy to be reunited with Aunt Ruth. I was just talking about him with Martin Paddock and remembering all the fine work he did on their house. I have many pleasant memories of visiting with Uncle Harold and Aunt Ruth. Rest in peace. My condolences to Norman and Carol.
