September 11, 1926 to January 27, 2015

Gordon Hunter passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and gratitude of his family Tuesday 27th of January 2015.   He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his very much dearly loved wife Lorene, his daughter Gayle, her son’s Nigel, and Regis, Gregory’s daughter Genesis, and son Gordon Jr., and their mother Pilar.   Gordon was predeceased by his father: Edwin James, mother: Constance, brother: Douglas, sister: Marilyn, and beloved son: Gregory.  Gordon was born in Victoria, BC, and grew up on Linden Avenue. He attended Sir James Douglas Elementary, Central Jr. High and Victoria High School where he was voted Class President of his graduating class of 1945. He was enthusiastic about sports, and would share with us memories of the victorious time in which he could sprint the 100 yard dash, how his jaw got broken playing rugby, and going to the downtown office of the ex-military dentist on a Saturday to have it wired closed, and his years of playing lacrosse. Gordon took up golf, and became a long time member of the Royal Colwood Golf Club.  After completing two years at Victoria College, Gordon, who along with his brother followed in his father’s trade, and began a successful career in construction with their father under the name of E.J. Hunter & Son’s, which further evolved when the two brothers partnered and built private, and commercial buildings throughout Victoria, as well as many communities covering Vancouver Island and the surrounding islands under the name of Hunter Construction Ltd.   Through the years Gordon took on many roles which included owning and operating a successful funeral home operation as well as becoming a creative, colourful, and much adored landlord to his tenants. The family is so appreciative and very thankful for all the kindness, and support which so many individuals have provided to us, especially over the past few months.

A Memorial Reception will be held at McCall’s Downtown, Johnson & Vancouver Streets at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 6, 2015.
