Our sympathies to the family and friends of Gordon. He was a good friend to us and guided us in so many ways. We enjoyed his humor. I have the apple pie recipe from Gordon and John to this day and it has been enjoyed by many. A man that solved so many problems for so many and will be truly missed. Rest in peace. Doreen

I have been visiting Gordon at the Lodge at Broadmead every week with my Therapy Dog. Gordon was always happy to see the dog and tell me about his childhood dog “Bones”. He always had a smile for us and was truly a Gentle Man.

Unfortunate to learn that Mr. Hall has passed on.

Commiserations to family and extended family members on the loss.

Mr. Hall was a knowledgeable and sensitive man; one of the best humans I have ever met in my short life. There is no replacement for a unique person man such as this and I can only imagine the sense of loss and the void that remaining family members will have to overcome with time.

Mr. Hall assisted me in a variety of ways during the short time I attended Mt Doug.

“Mr. Hall” (teachers didn’t have first names back then!) was my Law 11 teacher at Mt. View High . With his buoyant personality, sunny smile and infectuous enthusiasm, he was able to make his classes come alive. (Always remember his description of marriage: “It’s like wine – gets better with age!”) My sympathy to the family – your loved one was a wonderful mentor.

I was also touched to hear from a friend who is a care aide at Broadmead Lodge that Mr. Hall stayed himself right up to the end – unfailingly kind, courteous and gentle. A life well lived.

I worked with Gordie at Mt. Doug in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I was a very young teacher and Gordie was so kind and helpful. When he retired, I bought him some overalls and embroidered flowers and bees on them so that he would remember how much we would miss him. He once came to my aid when I was having trouble with a student. Eventually, I asked him what he said to the young man that would make such a difference to his behaviour in my class. He said, “I told him never to confuse kindness with weakness.” I love you, Gordie. May you rest in blissful peace.

“Mr. Hall” was my highschool counsellor at Mount Douglas from 1976-78. I can recall one time when he ended up teaching a group of bored teenagers in a Physical Education class Tai Chi — one of the most memorable PE classes I took. We really looked forward to that series of classes, and I still can remember some of the moves. He was so positive and kind with us all. He also gave me some great advice in the last term of highschool, when I really was ready to be done with school. He was creative in finding ways to ensure that my final term contained some useful courses and also that I got enough credits to graduate well. A genuinely kind man, it is so sad to hear this news, yet reading his obituary I can see that he lived a full life at all stages. Best wishes to the family.

I am one of the many students who was inspired by this wonderful man. As a teacher, he made subject content seem relevant to our lives and as a counselor he was compassionate and caring. He helped me through some difficult times. My condolences to the family – know that he lives on through the many hearts he touched in his lifetime.
